Boomerang Medical is excited to reconnect with our former interns and share what they are up to today! First up is Ashvin Irrinki, who interned with us last summer. Ashvin recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology and has now started medical school at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Congratulations, Ashvin! 🎓 We witnessed Ashvin’s dedication and enthusiasm for medical innovation and clinical trials firsthand. During his internship, he worked on various clinical operations projects, including a literature review on patients with IBD and J-pouch surgeries, documented FDA calls related to clinical trial timelines, attended site initiation visits, and ensured that clinical sites had all the necessary documentation for a smooth onboarding process. Ashvin, thank you for your contributions to TeamBoom. Congratulations on this exciting new chapter in your medical career at USC! We wish you all the best and hope to stay in touch.

19 years ago, the Illinois legislature enacted the Restroom Access Act, or Ally’s Law, to assist individuals with specific medical conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This crucial law ensures that people with these conditions can access employee-only restrooms in locations like restaurants, department stores, and other public places when public restrooms are unavailable. Since then, around 20 states have adopted similar measures, underscoring a growing commitment to accessibility and dignity for all individuals. #AllysLaw #RestroomAccess #IBD #UlcerativeColitis #CrohnsDisease

Several Lefteroff Interns at Fogarty Innovation met Hamm, one of CEO Heather Simonsen's beloved Leonbergers. We can attest that Hamm and his siblings are simply the best!
Before mental health apps: several of our Lefteroff Interns had the pleasure of meeting Hamm, one of four Leonbergers owned by Boomerang Medical CEO Heather Simonsen. Per Heather, Leonbergers originated in the 1800s in Leonberg, Germany and are a mix of Great Pyrenees, St. Bernard and Newfoundland. They are used for therapy dogs (as well as water rescue) and there are some on the East Coast that arrive via helicopter after disasters to help lift spirits.

Last weekend, our Marketing and Clinical Research Coordinator, Braden R. Koch, attended the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation's Take Steps event in the East Bay! This inspiring event celebrated the unique journeys of those living with IBD, highlighting the progress in research, and the challenges the community still faces. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with passionate individuals dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those affected by IBD. Boomerang Medical proudly walks alongside patients with IBD, the Foundation, and all advocates on the path to Mt. Remission, striving to advance treatment options one step at a time. #IBD #TakeSteps #IBDAwareness

Last week’s "Good Medicine Meets Good Business" event, part of the MedtechWOMEN series, emphasized the urgent need for increased research, investment, and innovation to improve women's health outcomes. At Boomerang Medical, we echo the sentiment shared by Fogarty Innovation: women's health encompasses far more than reproductive health and women’s cancers. As a women-led bioelectronic medicine company, we are dedicated to advancing the treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The significant impact of IBD on women's health and quality of life demands attention and alternative treatment approaches. Thank you to MedtechWOMEN, Fogarty Innovation, and all the inspiring speakers for fostering a discussion crucial to the future of women's health.
Think Broader. Women's health is more than reproductive health and women’s cancers. It includes general health conditions that affect women differently (like liver and colon cancer) or disproportionately (rheumatoid arthritis and asthma), and often-debilitating conditions that are underdiagnosed and undertreated (endometriosis and osteopenia). According to the World Economic Forum and McKinsey Health Institute, addressing just the top 10 of these conditions would have a $750B impact on GDP through increased productivity, fewer health conditions, and fewer early deaths. "Think about that as proxy for ROI - if we could develop novel solutions that address those conditions, what would the ROI be?" asked FI chief commercial strategy officer, Marga Ortigas-Wedekind. Today’s event, Good Medicine Meets Good Business, was the second in the MedtechWOMEN series, MedtechFORUM: Women’s Health in 2024 and Beyond. Marga Ortigas-Wedekind led the discussion with panelists Amelia Degenkolb, CEO Novocuff, Inc.; Andrea Olariu, CEO Medicines360; Laura Yecies, CEO Bone Health Technologies; and Tracy Dooley MD, partner at Avestria Ventures. In a conversation that was lively, frank, and informative, the panelists covered the gradually improving environment for women's health investment and innovation ("100% of people come out of uterus - it's not a niche market." -Amelia Degenkolb), and what's needed to increase research, investment, and innovation in the field in order to change standards of care and improve women's health outcomes. Thank you MedtechWOMEN for the opportunity to shine a light on this important topic and to all the speakers, organizers and audience members who participated! #womenshealth #innovation #partnership
