📢 We are hiring an Administrative Coordinator! 👋 If you’re a detail-oriented person who loves to support abolitionist organizing against ICE detention, we would love to hear from you! 👀 We are looking for an Administrative Coordinator 🕘 Full-Time, Non-exempt (possibility for part-time) 💸 The salary range is $68,000 – $73,000, along with a generous benefits and professional development package 🏢 50% in person at our Oakland office ℹ️ This position includes coordinating organizational administration and assisting in the reporting and solicitation of grants. The Administrative Coordinator will also provide general administrative support to the CCIJ team where capacity permits. As our Senior Attorney, Katie does incredible work to represent and advocate for people in immigration detention. She is also a fantastic team member and an invaluable mentor to new attorneys. Her experience and commitment are an inspiration to many, from her leadership with the legal clinic at Golden State Annex and placing people with pro bono representation, rapid response and coordination, Katie is an integral part of our organization. ✊ Just last week, Katie was part of a delegation to deliver a letter to ICE’s San Francisco Acting Field Office Director Polly Kaiser to call on her to meet the demands of labor and hunger strikers at Golden State Annex and Mesa Verde. Attorney, advocate, mentor and more, Sasha provides pro bono legal representation to people in ICE detention, provides mentorship to new lawyers, and facilitates various aspects of CCIJ’s collaborative spaces, including our roundtable conversations with organizations and attorneys on emergent and timely legal issues for people in immigrant detention. Groundbreaking: Cal/OSHA asked the Biden administration to not deport immigrants who worked in unsafe conditions at Golden State Annex ICE detention center, because they are needed as witnesses in an ongoing investigation in which Cal/OSHA fined private prison operator GEO Group over $100,000 for workplace violations. https://lnkd.in/gE_hae57 Along with Worksafe & Immigrant Defense Advocates, the California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice represents 7 workers who filed a complaint with Cal/OSHA in 2022. They worked 8-hour shifts performing essential duties in unsafe conditions for only $1 per day, an additional injustice that led dozens of them to launch a labor strike and sue the company. Mariel Villarreal, Senior Attorney with the California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice, said: "By issuing this letter, Cal/OSHA recognized what detained workers have long said: they cannot be safe from retaliation in detention. We call on ICE to end the contract with GEO and shut down the Golden State Annex detention center.”

Happy 2-year work anniversary, Mariel! It’s amazing how time flies! As a Senior Attorney with CCIJ, Mariel has led our legal assistance & advocacy work with detained immigrants at Imperial Regional Detention Facility in Calexico through pro se assistance, connecting folks with representation, and filing complaints. Mariel’s commitment to justice for workers has also led her to contribute immensely to our efforts at the intersection of labor and immigration struggles, including supporting detained worker complaints to Cal/OSHA and the National Labor Relations Board to hold private detention operators accountable for human rights violations.
