We're still buzzing from the great discussions at InterSystems Global Summit! As Cambia CIO Laurent Rotival shared on stage, we believe that innovation and technology should always serve a higher purpose – to make a meaningful impact on people's lives. As technology continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, we're committed to staying true to our Cause: to create a more person-focused and economically sustainable health care system. Thank you to Don Woodlock for the opportunity to share Cambia’s origin story with the global community and how we’re using technology to serve our communities.

Healthcare needs to scale services that center individuals. A century-old agreement among timber workers near Tacoma, Washington, offers some inspiration. The workers pooled part of their earnings to create a safety net for anyone injured on the job. That group grew into Cambia Health Solutions, an innovative healthcare organization serving millions in the Pacific Northwest. How has the organization, which includes six health plans, executed its founders’ vision all these years later? Data strategies that elevate the human experience across healthcare, from clinical care to customer service. Take just one of the examples the organization’s CIO, Laurent Rotival, recently offered: prior authorizations. Implementing a FHIR and SMART-on-FHIR prior authorization process cut response time from weeks to hours, delivering immediate notifications flagging missing data or pending questions. That’s precious time saved on the path to improved patient outcomes. While technology has advanced far beyond anything the timber workers imagined, Cambia ensures their spirit remains unchanged.
