Our intern Edwin recently completed a summer internship with our CSC Point of Rocks team! During his internship, Edwin worked with the production team learning about the manufacturing side of steel joist construction. He learned how to read technical drawings, completed his 1G weld certification, learned how to operate CNC equipment, and gained experience in joist quality control procedures. Additionally, he worked on projects in Lean inventory management, induction heating, and virtual reality employee training. He was invaluable in helping on-board new team members for a full-line ramp-up! Near the end of his experience, he had the opportunity to work with the design engineer team and saw how his hands-on plant experience added valuable insight to help plan projects with manufacturing efficiency in mind. Edwin is entering his third year as a Mechanical Engineering student at York College of Pennsylvania. He is also a member of their track and field team, competing in the high jump and 4x100 relay. Thank you Edwin and good luck this year! You helped make CSC Point of Rocks – Stronger than Steel!

September is National Suicide Prevention Month—a time to honor the lives lost to suicide, support those affected, and spread awareness of the importance of prevention. It’s also an opportunity to share messages of hope and remind everyone that help is available. At CSC, we’re committed to supporting mental health and raising awareness. Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing information about vital resources available locally and nationally to those in need. Today, many of our employees wore purple in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Day, standing in solidarity with those impacted.

"We’re proud to have been a part of the Essentia Health Vision Northland project, a vital healthcare destination for Northern Minnesota. This massive, innovative structure was the result of hard work and ingenuity to overcome several regional-specific weather challenges. CSC supplied our partner, LeJeune Steel Company, with almost 1 million square feet of steel deck that was manufactured at our Peru, IL facility. Lined up end to end, the steel deck accessories CSC provided totaled about 15 miles in length.

Our intern Gabe is wrapping up his experience working with us this summer where he was able to gain valuable experience in the field! "I learned a lot about steel design this year, especially about work points, welds, and slenderness ratios; and of course, I learned A LOT about joists. It was great being located at the plant where the joists were made, it's so important for engineers to know and see how the things they design are made so we can make further improvements." Gabe attends Mizzou and had the opportunity to get involved with the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment project on campus. He was a joy to have in the office—we love providing students opportunities to get real world experience to supplement their classroom learning. Good luck this year Gabe!
