Meet our intern, Marissa Halagao ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Marissa is a sophomore at Yale studying Ethnicity Race & Migration and Education Studies, passionate about culturally relevant curriculum that fosters critical consciousness and identity empowerment. Born and raised in Hawaiʻi, she’s interested in the intersections between Asian and Pasifika histories and communities. She’s the founder of the Filipino Curriculum Project which introduced Filipino history and culture curriculum to Hawaiʻi schools. At Yale, she’s a member of Kasama, where she led a community effort to introduce Tagalog language classes. This summer, she’s also an IMPACT! Filipino American scholar with the US-Asia Institute. She loves writing, graphic design, and dancing tinikling! Meet our intern, Christine B. ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Christine Baek is a rising senior at Brown University double concentrating in International & Public Affairs and Environmental Studies. She is deeply interested in climate change policy/diplomacy, with a focus on sustainable development and energy security. Christine is also passionate about nature storytelling and writes for several publications on campus including Brown's Alumni Magazine and the Forager Zine. Meet our intern, Tamanna Chowdhury ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Tamanna Chowdhury is a rising senior at Hunter College, majoring in Computer Science in the Daedalus Honors program, set to graduate a year early in May 2025. She is passionate about software engineering and actively contributes to her campus community. This summer, Tamanna is gaining valuable experience working with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In her free time, she loves filming, hanging out with her friends and family, and getting coffee! Meet our scholar, Rachel Tao ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Rachel Tao is a Georgetown senior and the daughter of Chinese immigrants from Alabama. At Georgetown, she is deeply involved with the Center for Social Justice and previously served as the Co-President of the Asian American Student Association. Off campus, she has completed several government internships, along with nonprofit and campaign work, pursuing her passion for economic equality and racial justice. In the meantime, you can find her visiting parks, going on long walks, and exploring DC with friends! Meet our intern, Ally H. ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Ally Huang (she/her) is a rising senior at Pomona College studying Public Policy Analysis and Economics. Her international upbringing drives her to analyze global issues through a quantitative, interdisciplinary lens to identify how policies can better reflect the needs of historically marginalized groups and pave the way for a sustainable future. On campus, she is involved in the Asian American Mentor Program, the Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company, and the Pomona College Writing Center. She enjoys writing book reviews, watching videos on 2x speed (or higher), and trying non-spicy instant ramen flavors. Meet our intern, Enkhtaivan Tsogtbaatar ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Enkhtaivan (Kenny) Tsogtbaatar is a rising junior studying International Studies at the University of Colorado, Denver. There, he is in the University Honors and Leadership Program, serves as an executive board member for the Asian Student Association, and volunteers at the Denver Rescue Mission and Food Bank of the Rockies. Enkhtaivan has also worked as an intern at his university’s Asian Student Association, a tutor at the UNIVERSAL English Language Center, and a translator for both the MATHSHOP program and the Mongolian Triathlon Union. Born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Enkhtaivan attended the Mongol Aspiration International Laboratory School where he founded the table tennis and badminton clubs, participated and earned awards in Model United Nations and English Language Olympiads, and was a finalist for the US State Department Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX). Meet our intern, Cooper Salomon ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Cooper is attending the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, studying Natural Resources and Environmental Management. He is passionate about understanding Indigenous resource management and applying traditional ecological knowledge in conservation. His mountains are the San Gabriels, and his waters are the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. With years of experience in wildlife care and rehabilitation, fire fuels reduction, native habitat restoration, remote emergency response development, trail construction, and conservation education, Cooper is dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment.
