Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) is a nationally accredited agency and 2014 recipient of the National Gold Medal Award. Established in 1991 through a unique partnership between the City of Carmel and Clay Township, CCPR plays an integral role in the quality of life of our community, helping Carmel be named America's #1 Best Place to Live by Money Magazine in August 2012. CCPR manages over 500 acres of park land and numerous recreation facilities, including the award-winning Monon Community Center and The Waterpark. By embracing an entrepreneurial approach to managing public services, CCPR consistently achieves at least 80% cost recovery in its total operations. With outstanding amenities, an innovative staff, and strong community support, CCPR offers an extensive array of popular services. Approximately 700,000 participants are served annually through our community center, waterpark, and recreation programs. Over 4,500 youth participate in our before and after school program, offered in partnership with the local school district.

Make a Lasting Impact on Our Local Parks: Join Our Fall Weed Wrangles! 🍂 We are gearing up for this year’s Fall Weed Wrangles—a series of volunteer events to restore the natural balance of Hamilton County's green spaces. In these events, we will remove invasive plants like Bradford pear, bush honeysuckle, burning bush, and autumn olive—species that pose serious threats to local ecosystems. Why does this matter? Invasive plants outcompete native species for resources such as sunlight, water, and nutrients. Over time, they can drastically alter the landscape, reducing biodiversity and weakening habitats that wildlife depend on. Removing them helps maintain the beauty of our parks and protects the ecosystem. By joining us, you will play a key role in protecting native species and promoting a healthy, resilient environment. 🌿 You do not need prior experience—just a passion for nature and a willingness to help. Whether you are an avid gardener, a nature enthusiast, or someone looking to make a difference, your contributions are valuable! Join us at one (or all!) of these upcoming events: 🌳 Inlow Park: September 10, 2:00-4:00 pm 🌳 West Park: October 30, 4:00-6:00 pm 🌳 Central Park: November 19, 10:00 am-12:00 pm Volunteers of all ages are welcome! (Note: Volunteers under 16 must bring a parent or guardian.) Ready to wrangle? • Exciting News for Our Community! 📣 We’re thrilled to announce the installation of a new sunscreen dispenser at Westermeier Common Splash Pad in Central Park, made possible through the leadership of Dr. Anita Joshi from Carmel City Council and Umayr R. Shaikh, MPH, a third-year Georgetown medical student and Carmel native. Their "Practicing Safe Skin" initiative raises awareness about skin cancer risks and making sun protection more accessible. With melanoma cases up 46% in Indiana, especially during the summer months, protecting our skin is more important than ever. These dispensers, sponsored by Dawes Fretzin Dermatology, are a proactive step in preventing sun damage. We’ve already installed two dispensers—one at Westermeier Common Splash Pad and another at Inlow Splash Pad in Lawrence W. Inlow Park—with the goal of expanding these across all Carmel Clay Parks. • Exploring the Benefits of Group Fitness 🌟 When it comes to maintaining an active lifestyle, there are many effective approaches - group fitness being one of them. Take Margo M., for example. After retiring, Margo wanted to stay healthy and active, so she turned to group fitness at the Monon Community Center (MCC). Through her participation in classes like Silver Sneakers and Zumba, led by the inspiring Julie S., Margo discovered a transformative fitness experience. What makes group fitness stand out? It’s the opportunity to connect with others who share similar goals, creating a supportive network that enhances motivation and commitment. For Margo, the sense of community she found in these classes was instrumental in helping her maintain an active lifestyle. Group fitness provides a vibrant and interactive environment where people of all ages and abilities can thrive together. It’s about more than just exercise; it’s about finding a community that encourages and uplifts you, making your fitness journey more engaging and enjoyable. • 🌳 July is Parks and Recreation Month—let's celebrate the importance of inclusive public spaces! At River Heritage Park, inclusivity and education are fundamental to our mission. We are dedicated to creating accessible environments that embrace diversity, featuring fully inclusive playgrounds and amenities where children of all abilities can play and explore together. Recently, we unveiled a new communication board—an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) resource designed to facilitate diverse forms of expression. This innovative tool allows visitors to convey emotions and highlight park features through intuitive symbols and illustrations. The board incorporates a QR code, enabling digital access throughout the park visit, and enhancing visitor engagement without disrupting their experience. Our commitment to inclusivity ensures something enriching for everyone in our community. 🤩 #WhereYouBelong #InclusiveParks #ParksAndRecreation #RiverHeritagePark #CarmelIndiana #CommunityEngagement #AccessibilityInDesign #EducationalSpaces
