Carolina Herrera is pleased to share that Shakira wore Carolina Herrera to the 2024 Met Gala in New York City on May 6, 2024. Global superstar Shakira is Creative Director Wes Gordon’s latest muse for this year’s Met Gala, celebrating the exhibition opening of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Shakira wears a strapless crepe column gown in signature Herrera Red with a sculptural rose-shaped cape of 30 meters in silk gazar. To accessorize the look, Shakira carries a Herrera Red silk satin draped clutch.   A celebration of Carolina Herrera’s dedication to exemplary craftsmanship, Shakira’s striking look is a collaboration between Wes and the three lead female patternmakers of the atelier. “To mitigate future textile waste from entering the landfill or incinerator, fashion players need to concentrate their efforts on supporting both existing and emerging recycling facilities.” (Hey Fashion!) Though FABSCRAP has developed a system for collecting, recycling, and redistributing textile waste, our small team continues to battle the staggering volumes of material that arrive each week - and those volumes only continue to grow. There is a desperate need to scale textile recycling (both pre-consumer and post-consumer!), and in order to do that successfully, the industry needs to support organizations like ours who are doing the manual work and heavy lifting! Huge thank you to Carolina Herrera who has partnered with us during Earth Month for a second year in a row! The last few years, the Carolina Herrera team has also provided beautiful items for our Anniversary Silent Auctions, and has co-hosted education sessions for their employees in order to increase team awareness on textile waste and circularity. Carolina Herrera has used our recycling service since 2019 and have diverted a total of ♻ 9,618 pounds of fabric from landfill! Which is the equivalent of ♻ 70.69 tons CO2 reduced or ♻ 1,060 trees planted We’re grateful to Carolina Herrera for being one of the luxury brands to find value in our work and continue to support us in additional ways! #EarthMonth #SaveThePlanetEarth #SupportNonprofits #ReduceWaste
