Founded in 1929, Catholic Charities is the social ministry outreach of the Archdiocese of Washington, serving Washington, D.C., and the surrounding Maryland counties of Montgomery, Prince George’s, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s. Catholic Charities DC is the most comprehensive social service provider in the D.C. metropolitan region. It is accredited by the Council on Accreditation. We help more than 203,000 people each year – those who live in poverty, those who are without homes, newcomers, people with developmental disabilities, teen parents, and despairing families who fell into hard times. We pride ourselves on serving anyone who comes to us, regardless of age, race, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, background, belief or circumstance. Employees from the government relations and public affairs consulting group Cornerstone Government Affairs are at our SHARE Food Network warehouse today for a day of service. They are putting together 1,600 packages of protein items, which will be given out in a special food distribution in Montgomery County. Thanks to CEO Geoff Gonella and all the members of the Cornerstone staff for your #volunteer help as SHARE works to address the food and economic issues faced by our neighbors. #volunteerism #service #DC #Maryland

Thank you to staff members from Further - Digital Solutions for Nonprofits who volunteered at St. Maria's Meals, our weekly #DC streetside meal service for people experiencing homelessness and hunger. St. Maria's Meals, which fed 7,332 people last year, is dependent upon #volunteers. We are particularly grateful to our digital marketing partner for the helping hands.

Our leadership team bid farewell today to Sister Sharlet Wagner, as she becomes president of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in Indiana. She and her work as executive director of Catholic Charities' Newcomer Network were praised by Rev. Msgr. John Enzler as an extraordinary gift. President and CEO Jim Malloy read excerpts from letters and proclamations from government officials, the Catholic Charities Board of Directors and others about her work. Cardinal Wilton D. Gregory described her as "the face of the Church to immigrants." In saying goodbye, Sister praised the "amazing people I've worked with throughout the organization. I'll leave a big part of my heart here." #leadership #service

As we approach #LaborDay, our mission advocate Rev. Msgr. John Enzler suggests that, as we honor the dignity of #work and #workers, we should reflect on how well we live the seven principles of social justice and bring them to our families, communities and work. https://lnkd.in/eC9dBG8D #socialjustice Catholic Standard

Our SHARE Food Network brings lower-cost groceries to many people across #DC and #Maryland and provides food packages for our free distributions. We are indebted to the volunteers who help make this happen. That includes employees from KPMG US, who spent their company's "Community Impact Day" packaging food in preparation for SHARE deliveries. Thank you to the #KPMGCommunityImpact crew who volunteered their time with us. #volunteers #givingback Yonette Wilson Williams KPMG
