If you’ve either applied for a fellowship grant (F) before or have sponsored one, be aware that previous applications won’t serve as a good example due to coming changes in the application. The applications for individual fellowships (F30, F31, F32, F99/K00) at The National Institutes of Health are changing beginning with receipt dates on or after January 25, 2025. The changes shorten the application but you’ll need to budget more time to read the new application instructions carefully, especially if you were planning to use an existing application as a template. We’re recruiting for the role of Director, Division of Receipt and Referral (DRR), CSR! The DRR Director serves as an important advisor to the CSR Director; contributes to the development of major policies affecting funding announcements and the receipt, referral and review of research grant applications; provides advice and consultation to The National Institutes of Health and other U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) components and grantee institutions; and establishes effective procedures to ensure program operations and obligations of government funds and other resources are rendered consistent with statutory and regulatory requirements and within limitations imposed by HHS and Executive Branch policies. The activities of DRR are dedicated to ensuring a smooth interface between investigators, grantee organizations, CSR, and the awarding components of NIH and HHS. The National Institutes of Health will begin implementing changes to its peer review process for applications submitted on or after January 25, 2025. These changes, informed by extensive input from the biomedical research community, will help reviewers focus on the potential for the proposed research to advance scientific knowledge and also mitigate elements that have the potential to introduce bias into review.
