Whew... this is a tough one to write. Today is my last day as an intern at NBC News in the Washington D.C. Bureau. There isn't enough I can say about what this internship has given me, what I've been able to experience from it and frankly, what it meant to me. This was an insane summer (putting it lightly) that monumentally impacted how I see the news. But it also just as monumentally affirmed to me that this is my life's passion. Finding the truth, holding those in power accountable for their actions and lifting the voices of those that aren't able to have their stories told is my lifeblood. As my internship ends at 5 o’clock today, I'll have published two stories with my name on the byline (with two more planned for publication on a later date... links to the articles in the comments), helped report with Scott Wong in the halls of the Capitol, logged the Presidential Debate and several days of the RNC. I've been busy and I wouldn't have it any other way. I came to D.C. with one major goal (one that my friend April Morris would tell prospective Purdue students): can I thrive here? That was a really complicated question that I struggled with for a long time. This town wasn’t easy. Making friends, being responsible, working under deadlines and crunch times all wiped me out. The stress of the news wiped me out. My impostor syndrome wiped me out. But the answer is a resounding yes. With a little bit of grit and determination, I know I can forge my path in Washington D.C. And in 8 months I plan to return to the Nation's Capitol to continue breaking the news. The work doesn't stop until then though. Tonight I get on a flight back to the midwest and tomorrow I'll be moved back into Purdue, immediately jumping into my new role as the City Editor of The Purdue Exponent. I'm beyond eager to see and hug my Indiana family, friends and colleagues over the next few days... but a big part of me won't be able to leave this city. Thank you to every single person who gave me a few minutes of their day to talk about this job, career, town, politics, culture, history, college... you name it. It was an honor to get to talk to you. I have too many people to thank which I'm beyond honored to say. It's really hard to let go of this experience. It changed my life. I am excited to share that this summer I had the incredible opportunity to intern for the US House of Representatives! During my time on Capitol Hill, I gained valuable experience working alongside Hill staffers and witnessed the legislative process in action. From assisting with policy research and constituent outreach to attending briefings and drafting communications, every task was a learning experience. I’m grateful for the mentorship and guidance I received and am eager to apply these insights to my future endeavors. Special thank you to Rachel Cumberbatch, DVM for being such a wonderful mentor to me!

This past May, I graduated from Purdue University, reflecting on the countless programs and opportunities I embraced during my time in West Lafayette. My journey included contributing to Purdue’s Fast Track News, the Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement, and Purdue Bands and Orchestras, shaping unforgettable memories and experiences. As the Production Director of Fast Track, I honed my communication and cinematography skills, producing engaging newscasts weekly. Interviewing notable personalities and meeting Brian Lamb, after whom the Brian Lamb School of Communication - Purdue University is named, were highlights. Additionally, performing at women’s basketball and volleyball games and traveling for tournament performances with the band were truly rewarding experiences. Reflecting on the past year, it was undeniably the busiest and most influential period of my life. Each new event or project presented an opportunity to shape my future career path. I had the privilege of runningn into Mung Chiang multiple times, first as a reporter and videographer for Fast Track and later as a graduate receiving my degrees in person from him. As I step into the workforce, I am grateful for the unwavering support, celebrations of achievements, and comfort during setbacks from everyone who accompanied me on this journey. Here’s to an exciting future ahead! Boiler Up!
