25 years ago, West Nile virus was detected in people for the first time in U.S.—now it’s the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease. Though prevention measures are effective, alone they are not enough to reduce the burden of West Nile virus. Better control measures are needed, including improved mosquito control methods, treatment, and a vaccine.
