If you have posted a senior level role to a job board recently, you know that you will get tons of applications. But how many of those are even remotely qualified for the role? In our experience, not many. The time your #hr team spends sifting through these unqualified candidates can be a major distraction from filling the position. That's why we started building a private network of senior leaders in 2005. These are the results orientated candidates you want on your leadership team. If you would like to stop looking at unqualified resumes and start talking to the right executives, send us a message.

Have you ever experienced one of your highest revenue years but struggled with profits? It’s a common issue: everyone is working hard, but the results aren’t matching the effort. Many businesses fall into the trap of reactive efforts, constantly shifting tactics without clear strategic direction. This approach often leads to repeated failures and missed opportunities. It’s essential to get back to basics—clarity, a solid strategic plan, and patience—to see real results. Understanding your company's purpose, setting clear goals, and executing with focus are fundamental. A one-page strategic plan can be a game-changer, providing direction and allowing for accelerated growth by clearly identifying gaps and necessary resources. The gig economy offers a powerful solution—interim executives and advisors can provide the expertise and accountability needed to execute your strategy effectively. If clarity or execution is a challenge, outside resources can be the key to turning your vision into reality. Ready to take your business to the next level? Over the next decade, as baby boomers continue to retire, hundreds of thousands of businesses will be up for sale. Selling a business is more than just a task—it's a process with unpredictable timing. Why does selling a business sound appealing to you? Retirement is one of many reasons entrepreneurs decide to part ways with their businesses. Here are three common scenarios: 1. Business in Trouble: When a business is struggling for survival, selling becomes a way to mitigate risks and salvage value before it diminishes further. 2. Attractive Offer: Sometimes, a peak business performance attracts unexpected high offers. Acting swiftly is crucial before such opportunities fade away. 3. Timing Feels Right: Approximately 20% of business sales happen when owners feel it's the right time, allowing ample preparation and consideration of offers. Selling a Business – How do you prepare? In an insightful interview with Dr. Tom McKaskill, a renowned entrepreneur and investor, he shares key strategies to prepare your business for a successful sale: 1. Target the Buyer: Understand the buyer's perspective and align your business to match their interests and operational style. 2. Create Value: Highlight different aspects of your business that appeal to various types of buyers—whether it's intellectual property, customer base, or operational efficiency. 3. Sell the Future: Focus on showcasing the future potential of your business rather than its past achievements. Buyers are interested in what the business can achieve under their ownership. 4. Hire a Quality Advisor: Engage a skilled advisor who understands modern valuation methods and can effectively negotiate on your behalf, focusing on future value creation rather than past performance. These principles apply universally, whether your business is a local shop or a medium-sized enterprise. Documenting knowledge and creating a succession plan can significantly enhance the attractiveness of your business to potential buyers. At Cerius, most of our communication is virtual. We’ve tried everything under the sun, yet always find our way back to email. Communication is one of the most esoteric topics in any company. Everyone knows it needs improvement, but no one knows where to start. The inbox can feel like a game with a clock ticking down, sifting through what requires immediate attention versus what can wait. Much of our team at Cerius is virtual. We have tried everything from Slack to CRM chatter to texting, yet we always return to good, old-fashioned email. But the relentless influx of emails can be overwhelming. Here are a few communication hacks we've found helpful: 1. Use Subject Line Tags: Identify priority with tags like “Information” or “Action Needed.” 2. BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front): Start emails with the most important information. State the key point in the first few sentences. 3. Bold Action Items: Highlight actions needed in bold to ensure they stand out. A centralized communication hub can also streamline information sharing. This can be a simple shared document that includes weekly alerts, departmental updates, helpful links, and reminders. Importantly, include your company’s core purpose and values at the top. Lastly, remember that not all communication should be handled digitally. Sometimes, picking up the phone is more effective for personal and real-time interaction. Improve your communication strategies with these simple steps.
