Today is the 50th anniversary of the CDBG Program, and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the City of Cleveland - City Hall, Cuyahoga County, CHN and the Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corporation gathered to celebrate. We gathered at the iconic St. Michael School and Convent in Tremont, a building being restored and converted into affordable senior housing, in part funded by the CDBG Program. We had a wonderful time at the fourth annual Believe in Home 5K! We were thrilled to come together as a community to support affordable housing and housing stability in Cleveland. Last week, the City of Detroit held a press conference to announce the Detroit Home Accessibility Program! We'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the two members of council who attended the event for their continued support and advocacy for this vital program - Mary Waters, Detroit City Council Member At-Large and Detroit City Council Member Fred Durhal III. Through this program, we teamed up with the City of Detroit and Detroit Disability Power to create safer, more accessible homes for Detroiters with disabilities. This program provides eligible Detroit residents with grant-funded modifications to improve the entries and exits of their homes. Eligible repairs include ramps or lifts for mobility device users, interior and exterior entrance and exit rails, exterior door improvements, alarm bells or lighting and entry or exit trip hazard remediation. We were incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Gus Frangos, founder and president of the Cuyahoga Land Bank. Gus was an incredible person who dedicated his life to helping others and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our community and affordable housing. Recently, 165 volunteers from CHN residents and staff, Oswald Companies, CVS Health, Union Home Mortgage Corp., The Cleveland Police Foundation, The Cleveland Division of Police and Councilwoman Howse-Jones gathered to participate in a community cleanup day in the Hough neighborhood.
