In Southern California today, we are challenged by an affordable housing crisis, in part due to dwindling developable land which contributes to exorbitant land costs. On top of this, our state has strict, complex environmental regulatory requirements, further exacerbating the problem. Maybe today more than ever, this perfect storm of circumstances is bringing attention to an age-old challenge in Southern California – how can we address the thousands of abandoned oil well properties, and return these sites to productive, developable land for the benefit of the entire community? At Citadel EHS, our commitment to the environment, health, safety, and sustainability is unwavering. Recently, we were called upon to address a unique challenge involving a fire water storage tank classified as a permit-required confined space. The contractor hired for the repairs expressed concerns about potential mold hazards within the space. Our industrial hygiene and safety team represented by Jeffrey Klein, Astrid Galindo, and Victoria Codella, MSES, CDPH, CSST, CSP swiftly responded by conducting a confined space entry and a thorough microbial investigation to ensure the environment was safe for all workers involved. Thanks to our expertise, the contractor was able to proceed with confidence, knowing that their team was protected from potential health risks. At Citadel EHS, we take pride in being the go-to partner for environmental, health, safety, and sustainability solutions. If you have any concerns about the safety of your workspaces or need expert guidance on compliance and sustainability, we’re here to help. Let's connect and ensure a safer, healthier future together! Reach out to learn more about how we can support your projects.

Citadel EHS: Your Guide to WAIRE Compliance and Emissions Reduction The Warehouse Actions and Investments to Reduce Emissions (WAIRE) Program requires warehouse operators to earn WAIRE Points each year to reduce nitrogen oxide and diesel emissions associated with warehouses and to meet state and federal air quality standards. The WAIRE Program is a menu-based point system, and WAIRE Points can be earned through completing actions off the WAIRE Menu, implementing an approved, site-specific Custom WAIRE Plan, or paying a mitigation fee. This program applies to owners and operators of warehouses located in the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) jurisdiction with 100,000 square feet (SF) or more of indoor warehouse space in a single building. The WAIRE Program was adopted in May 2021; and is being phased in over time based on the warehouse size. Annual WAIRE Report (AWR) for warehouses greater than 250,000 SF were due in January 2024. If your warehouse is between 150,000 SF and 250,000 SF in size, an AWR will need to be submitted by January 31, 2025, for the 2024 reporting year. Citadel EHS is here to support your compliance with the Warehouse Actions and Investments to Reduce Emissions (WAIRE) program.
