#FeatureFriday: Meet Michael, one of our Technical Communications Representatives in the Communications, Legislative, and External Affairs Division. He joined #TeamCitizens just over a year ago, looking to expand upon his creative writing background. Michael first heard about Citizens through his manager at a previous job. "She saw a great opportunity here and recommended it to me. At first, I thought she might be exaggerating, so I waited a year before joining. But after more people echoed her recommendation, and she remained insistent, I decided to take the plunge—and here I am!" When asked what advice he would give someone considering a career with Citizens, Michael said, "Don't be intimidated by property insurance. It may seem complicated at first, but the training you'll receive provides the necessary knowledge, and from there, you can continue to grow." “What I’ve found most rewarding is working with my team. #WeAreCitizens: Meet Avaneesh, an IT Intern on the Application Development team. Avaneesh shared that he has felt well-integrated into the team throughout his internship, appreciating the collaborative atmosphere that fosters continuous improvement. When asked about a project that stood out to him, Avaneesh highlighted developing a GEN AI chatbot from scratch. “This project involved creating a solution that analyzes the IT department's budget and financial data by interpreting natural language queries through AI. I was responsible for every aspect of the project, from designing the user interface to developing the backend and selecting the appropriate libraries and data stores. Researching and optimizing each component made this project particularly valuable and rewarding.” One unexpected aspect of his internship was working with NLP (Natural Language Processing) technologies at an insurance company. “This was especially exciting since I had recently completed an NLP course at the University of Florida (UF) and was eager to apply my knowledge in this area. The internship provided me with the chance to conduct extensive research and pursue additional online courses, which greatly supported my development and helped me create a successful application.” Thanks for being a part of #TeamCitizens, Avaneesh! #WeAreCitizens: Meet Conner, one of our IT Interns specializing in Software Development on the Application Development team. Conner is entering his senior year at Florida State University, where he is pursuing his bachelor's in computer science. Connor expressed that before this internship, he didn't have web development experience. He shared, “I've since gained valuable experience and skills in full stack development and fundamental knowledge about the Florida insurance industry, providing a broader context for the technologies I'm developing." Conner has been involved in implementing a full stack web application from the ground up. He says this project gave him a solid understanding of the basics of web development, which will serve him well as he pursues a career in technology. He is also working on a user story that will be used by Citizens' developers, equipping him with the knowledge of how to apply his development skills in a real-world business environment.
