Garland is where things are made. Products, careers and opportunities are made here. Friendships that last a lifetime are made here, and generations of families have made this part of Texas their home. As early as the mid-1800s, settlers began arriving in what is now Garland. The pioneers found the black soil ideal for cotton and the communities of Duck Creek and Embree thrived on that crop. In 1886, two railroad lines built depots in the area. Eventually those two communities combined and became Garland, officially incorporated in 1891. Garland enjoys a rich history that has shaped it into the thriving metropolitan-area city that offers its residents and businesses a high quality of life, excellent educational and workforce development opportunities, and is enhanced by community leadership and partners. Garland is proud of its affordable and business-friendly climate.

If you're driving along Columbine Dr. between Rosehill Rd. and Country Club Rd., you'll enjoy a much smoother ride now. Recent upgrades covered 1,650 feet of improvements, including new pavement, curb, sidewalks, and sewer line replacement at a cost of $1.2 million. We appreciate the patience of Columbine Dr. residents and those in the surrounding streets during the construction. We hope you’re pleased with the improvements! A big thank you to Garrett Metal Detectors for generously donating a new Paragon walk-through metal detector to the Brad Neighbor Municipal Court Building. This new device replaces the original detector that Garrett had donated when the facility first opened. Recently, Garrett employees personally transported the new detector from their headquarters across the street, rolling it through the parking lot and into its new position. Garrett has a long-standing history in Garland and remains a strong supporter of public safety. We deeply appreciate your continued support! #GarlandTX #Garrett #MetalDetectors #security

Picture this: over 150,000 washing machines stacked together, filling a Costco or Home Depot. That's roughly the amount of brush and debris collected after the massive storm in May. So, what happens with all that material? It's currently going through the recycling "cycle", being transformed into mulch and compost, which Garland residents can get for free at the Transfer Station located at 1426 Commerce St. Hours are Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Sat. 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. More details at GarlandSanitation.com
