Countdown to Celebrate CJE 🎉This is our 19th annual fundraising event, a significant evening for CJE SeniorLife and the community we serve. As our only major fundraiser each year, the proceeds help fund vital programs in the Chicago area. Did you know that older adults, who make up just 16.8% of the population, account for approximately 22% of suicides? As September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and today is World Suicide Prevention Day, we want to share some important information. 988 is the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. By dialing 988, you can access 24/7, free, and confidential support for those in distress, as well as prevention and crisis resources for yourself or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals in the United States. Here are five action steps from the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline to help if you know an older adult considering suicide: Ask. Don’t hesitate to be direct with the person at risk. Be there. If possible, be physically present to reduce feelings of isolation and provide a sense of connectedness. Keep them safe. Determine if the person has made any attempts on their life. Help them connect. Encourage them to establish support systems they can rely on now and in future moments of crisis. Follow up. Studies show that following up can reduce suicide-related deaths in high-risk populations. This summer we held our Annual Meeting, bringing together our Board of Directors, esteemed partners from the Jewish United Fund, Associate Board Members, and dedicated staff. In his inspiring address, Dan Fagin, President and CEO, reflected on our achievements over the past year and shared an exciting vision for the year ahead. We also took this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Michael Saltzman for his exceptional dedication as Board Chair over the past three years. We are delighted to welcome Kenneth F. Lorch as our new Chair and Susan Ringel Segal as Vice Chair. It was a truly memorable evening, filled with joy and appreciation for the incredible people and impactful work of CJE SeniorLife.
