On Sunday, August 25 and Monday, August 26, the Colorectal Cancer Alliance had the sincere privilege of hosting our inaugural Contractors Against Cancer concert and golf event in Potomac, MD! Featuring the musical talents of Ryan Cabrera, Edwin McCain, Sister Hazel and other amazing performers, the intimate concert experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the attendees on Sunday night. Golf on Monday was perfect until the unexpected lightning and rain delay, but even that could not dampen our golfers’ enthusiasm! Our guests also genuinely appreciated the access they had to the celebrity golfers, a generous gifting experience, industry networking opportunities and most importantly learning more about the life-saving mission and work of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. Judy’s husband, Tom, ignored his doctor's recommendation at 54 to get a colonoscopy despite being healthy and active. He experienced occasional bloody stools and heartburn after meals but thought it was nothing serious. However, when he finally got the colonoscopy, it revealed stage IV rectal cancer. Tom underwent chemo and radiation but, unfortunately, passed away 28 months later. Judy shares his experience to highlight the importance of getting regular colonoscopies and listening to your body, as colorectal cancer “can sneak up on anyone, even those who are healthy and have no family history.” Take this quiz to determine when you should get screened: quiz.getscreened.org.
