Day 4, we wrapped up our tour of Compass Career Services today with a familiar (Dungarvin!) face. Executive Assistant Kristen came over with our 2022 acquisition and is the glue that connects our Compass and Dungarvin Washington operations. Shawna is Compass Regional Director, and although she is responsible for services in Kennewick, Moses Lake and Spokane she can often be found in her office next to Program Director Jessica, who has run the Spokane team since October. Next, we met Community Inclusion Lead Debbie and new Employment Lead Brandy who often collaborate to achieve the best outcomes possible for their respective clients. Fast Track to Employment, an evidence-based employment model that includes support to individuals and families, is offered by Care Manager Amber, who focuses on connecting people to resources and removing barriers to their participation. Last but never least, our buddy Diesel was back in the office to say good bye but it wasn’t enough for Communication Manager Tony who was hoping for more interaction, lol! Day 3 of our Washington week included learning more about Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program in Moses Lake, which helps individuals dealing with mental health challenges, domestic abuse struggles and many other hardships. Richard, Employment Specialist, took us along to the local food shelter to introduce some of the people (like Kat!) who he supports working there to give back to their own community. Back at the office, we met Community Inclusion Specialist Deborah, who was about to drive 30 minutes to help an individual she supports get out into their community. The Moses Lake team were honored to share more about their work with you! In the afternoon, we headed northeast to visit our team in Spokane. There, we met up with Program Director Jessica, who introduced us to Sydney, a well connected self-advocate who has recently been hired as a Community Inclusion Specialist. Sydney, who has autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is proud to provide services to others with IDD, like her client Carol. We wrapped up the day wishing Alex a Happy Birthday then meeting Nate (and his furry sidekick, Diesel), who shared a deep expertise — and personal passion — for the opportunities available for clients through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) program. Day 2 of our week in Washington was spent with the Compass Kennewick team! We were able to tour the office and interview our incredible staff on the valuable work they do with Foundational Community Supports (FCS), Supportive Housing and Supported Employment. We had lunch together at a local Mexican spot then headed to the Union Gospel Mission to spread the services and resources of Compass to those in need of support in the Kennewick area. The team attends events like these as often as they can, usually 1-2 times a month. We look forward to sharing with you our experience in Moses Lake tomorrow! It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rebecca, a cherished member of the Compass family. For over two years, Rebecca dedicated her compassion and unwavering service to our local employment and housing clients. Her work at Compass was only a part of her lifelong commitment to social services, where she tirelessly gave back to the community and offered 100% of herself to those in need.    Rebecca had a unique ability to connect with clients, breaking down walls with her respectful and caring nature. Her open ear and empathetic heart made a profound impact on everyone she met. Her passing leaves a significant void in our community, and she will be deeply missed.   In honor of Rebecca's legacy, we encourage everyone to reach out and help someone in need. By doing so, we can continue the compassionate work she devoted her life to.

Brandy Gerdes-Schutz is no stranger to serving others. As Senior Director of Compass Career Solutions, Brandy is proud of the work she does. “The people that we help have experienced barriers to finding consistent employment or permanent housing,” she shared. “The state of Washington is trying to solve a chronic homelessness problem, and I feel fortunate to be part of a solution.” Through person-centered work, Compass helps its clients reintegrate into their community. Through one-on-one consultation, Compass supports a vulnerable population get back on their feet by making informed choices through support structured in safety, setting clear boundaries, and most importantly, fostering dependable relationships with its staff. Compass specializes in supported employment, supportive housing and community integration services that help individuals develop a sense of pride as they land a job and find safe and affordable housing.
