Powering NYC, Westchester, and leading the clean energy transition.

Über uns

We provide power to more than 10 million people and businesses across NYC and Westchester. Reliability and accessibility are central to what we do and how we provide energy service. Leading the industry to power tomorrow is our other focus- we are committed to aggressively transitioning away from fossil fuels to a net-zero economy by 2050. To help achieve this we collaborate with customers, regulators, policymakers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure our clean energy future is informed by principles of affordability, equity, and environmental justice. We’re also heavily investing in new technologies and the infrastructure that can get us there. What are a few things we have achieved so far? • Since 2009, our energy efficiency programs have prevented 11 million metric tons of carbon emissions – the same amount it would take to power 1.4 million homes for a year • Recently, we’ve embarked on an 8-year project to make our systems more resilient in the face of extreme weather events

A South Carolina man’s proposal in Times Square almost went wrong when the ring fell into a sidewalk grate. Thankfully, our Steam Operations team, Elvimar R. and Bertilio Caceres, were on a routine safety patrol and noticed the situation. The team searched for the ring in our manholes but after realizing the grate belonged to the MTA, an overnight MTA crew was called in and successfully retrieved the ring from a deep vent shaft. With support from the New York City Fire Department, we're offering incentives for developers and building owners to safely install charging stations for electric bikes and scooters in disadvantaged communities. Our new PowerReady #micromobility program's goal is increase safety and provide access to clean transportation as defined by NY state's climate law. These incentives are part of our ongoing commitment to a clean energy future and more sustainable grid. “Con Edison wants to help New Yorkers have access to safe, reliable charging to support these forms of clean transportation,” says Raghusimha Sudhakara, VP, Distributed Resource Integration. “Our PowerReady Micromobility Program will make access to electric mobility safer and easier, especially for residents of disadvantaged communities, which is a critical component in advancing New York’s clean energy goals.” For more info, visit http://spr.ly/6046lqBgC.

In 2023, we proudly contributed over $22.6 billion to New York's economy. These investments contributed to our clean energy transition by sustaining over 38,000 local jobs, increasing contracts with small business owners, and making investments into resiliency projects to protect service reliability, with 10 times fewer electricity interruptions compared to the national average. “This report shows the essential role that Con Edison plays in our region’s vibrant economy and in making this the best place in the world to live, work and visit,” said Tim Cawley, chairman and CEO of Con Edison. Our revved up #SmartChargeNY program, one of the largest in the country, promotes "managed charging" to protect the grid by offering incentives to customers. Today, the program now allows 60 EV models, 5 internet-connected home chargers, and an app that allows participants to manage their accounts from their phones and computers. “At the beginning of last year, Con Edison had 12 percent of the registered electric vehicle market in our service territory enrolled in the SmartCharge New York program,” says Joe Morreale, section manager, E-Mobility Residential Managed Charging and Demonstration Projects. “It’s already grown to 19 percent. The goal is to be in the ballpark of 25 percent by year-end." Read more about this program and our initiatives at http://spr.ly/6042ca9p4.

Honored to have been quoted in The Wall Street Journal this week. As extreme weather events become more frequent and severe, we are racing to adapt and protect our power grid. Hurricanes, heat waves, and floods are pushing the limits of existing infrastructure, and the urgency to find sustainable solutions has never been greater. It's clear that building a resilient power grid is not just about addressing current challenges but also preparing for a future shaped by climate change. #ClimateChange #Energy #Sustainability #ResilientInfrastructure #ExtremeWeather #ClimateResilience Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eD_zMVZw
