Our Corning Life Sciences plant in Kennebunk, Maine, transformed into a hub of learning and fun during their second annual Children's Safety and Science event! Employees invited their families to experience a day in their shoes, sharing insights into workplace safety. Experts from local safety organizations also joined to expand the horizon of safety awareness, sharing critical advice on fire prevention, bicycle safety, boating rules, and swimming safety.

That’s a wrap! Our 2024 Summer Science Research Experience (SSRE) session recently concluded with a knowledge sharing symposium where students presented an overview of their summer project to other SSRE participants and program mentors. Corning’s SSRE experience is designed to provide rising high school seniors who demonstrate an interest and competency in #STEM the opportunity to enrich their skills through practical application in a real-world setting. Students are paired with a Corning mentor and are responsible for projects that contribute to the overall technical deliverables of the group they support. Throughout much of her professional career, Estefanía Martínez Alba, Corning Mexico Communications Manager, has intertwined activism with the workplace. At Corning, Estefania has had a major impact on inclusion, co-launching a chapter of an employee resource group for people on the LGBTQ+ spectrum and their allies, in addition to hosting professional conferences about acceptance and equality. Recently, her efforts were acknowledged by MIT Sloan Management Review, which listed her among the 100 most influential LGBTQ+ leaders in Mexico. You’ve seen Little Joe, but have you met the gaffer on the bench across from him? Designed and created by Italian American artist, Bruno Lucchesi, this bronze statue was crafted in 1993 to mark the grand opening of Corning’s new headquarters building. Two identical miniature statues were created and given to two members of Corning’s founding family, Amo and Jamie Houghton.

In 1981, Corning brought black-and-white TV glass technology to Chinese customers through a “turnkey” operation in Shanghai. Today, our largest fusion glassmaking facilities are located alongside our Chinese customers. Then versus now ✨ Little Joe Tower is well known and loved in the Corning Valley. Once utilized by glassworkers as a vertical draw tower for tubing production, Little Joe remains a symbol of pride and nostalgia, capturing the hearts of Corning residents.
