🌟 Congrats to the newest CIT Trained Officers! 🌟 We are thrilled to welcome 13 new Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Trained officers to Erie County! These officers have undergone a full 40-hour week of training in mental health education, the effects of trauma, empathy, mental hygiene law, special populations, communication skills, and our local mental health system. Their skills can be used to identify, address, and (when possible) divert mental and behavioral health crises away from the criminal justice system. They learned how to resolve crises in the community through safety planning and linkage to help. Our co-instructors from Buffalo Police Department, Cheektowaga Police Department, Lancaster, N.Y. Police Department, and Town of Hamburg Police provided years of experience and insight, and huge thank you to Amherst Police Department - NY, East Aurora Police Department, Lackawanna Police Department, and Buffalo Police Department for arranging to get your officers this important training. Together, we can change the system!
