After the unprecedented and widespread computer outage caused by a CrowdStrike update. Cynet wants to ensure clients that Cynet’s updated procedures were designed to preclude this type of catastrophe. A faulty update to the CrowdStrike Falcon sensor caused Windows machines to crash in the early morning hours (EST) of Friday, July 19. The issue brought down the operations of major airlines, financial institutions, and healthcare providers. CrowdStrike immediately issued instructions for manually rebooting each affected system in safe mode and deleting the faulty file. It’s estimated that 20% of Windows machines are affected by this issue. Cynet wants to reassure customers that the procedures we have in place for system updates were specifically designed to avoid a similar problem. • Cynet heavily tests its software and updates, both manually and automatically prior to deploying it to customers. • Cynet utilizes a gradual rollout method, meaning that not all customers receive the same update at once, so even if there is an issue, only a limited number of customers may experience it. Furthermore, Cynet starts its version update with the Cynet internal employees’ network (Cynet HQ), so if there is an issue, Cynet employees will be the first to notice before any customer gets the new version/update. • Cynet always deploys new versions and updates during its engineers' regular working hours, making it much more controllable to tackle issues if they appear.
