We're proud to be Sensory Inclusive Certified – again! Since 2019, we’ve partnered with KultureCity to ensure our campus, programs, and events are sensory-inclusive for individuals with autism, PTSD, dementia, and anyone who may be sensitive to sensory stimuli. We're excited to announce that we recently renewed our certification, continuing our commitment to making the Dallas Zoo a welcoming space for everyone to connect with animals and nature. To achieve and maintain this certification, our staff undergoes continuous training from leading medical professionals to recognize guests with sensory needs and effectively manage sensory overload situations. We provide sensory bags equipped with noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted lap pads to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all our guests. We also host Sensory Friendly Days at the Zoo, where families can explore the Zoo without the crowds, noise, and sensory stimuli of a typical day. Our next Sensory Friendly Day is on September 29 – check out our website for more information: bit.ly/3X1jjeL #DallasZoo #SensoryInclusive #KultureCity #AccessibilityForAll #InclusiveExperience #Community

We’re thrilled to share that one of our conservation partners, the Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center (GRACE Gorillas), has just announced the grand opening of a much-anticipated community center dedicated to the Zoo’s former CEO, Gregg Hudson. The Gregg Hudson Community Center located in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), will serve as a key gathering place for both the GRACE team and the local community, providing access to computers, the internet, and a small library. In addition, the event center can be used to host workshops or as a space for community associations to meet. This is the kind of resource that can help the community connect, learn, and grow. Gregg served as GRACE’s first Board Chair and helped lay the foundation for the strong organization it is today. GRACE shared that naming the center after him is the best way to honor his lasting contributions and impact on their work. We couldn’t be more proud of Gregg’s legacy and the vital role this community center will play in empowering the people of the DRC.

It’s #WorldRangerDay! Today, we celebrate the brave and selfless men and women who safeguard our planet’s diverse ecosystems and wildlife. Rangers play a crucial role in protecting parks and wildlife, and their dedication inspires us all. At the Dallas Zoo, our commitment to wildlife extends beyond our gates. Since 2022, we have partnered with VETPAW - Veterans Empowered to Protect African Wildlife, an organization on the frontlines in the battle against illegal poaching and habitat destruction in Africa. VETPAW trains local park rangers in essential anti-poaching methods, engages with communities, and empowers youth to foster a collaborative effort in wildlife protection. Our very own Director of Conservation, Chris Corpus, serves on the Board of VETPAW. In 2023, two Dallas Zoo staff members traveled to VETPAW headquarters to support their work, and later this year, two more will join them to continue this vital work! Check out some highlights from our team’s trip to South Africa last year. Conservation is a collective effort, and together with our partners like VETPAW, we strive to create a world where wildlife and people can thrive in harmony. #dallaszoo #rangerday #wildlife #conservation
