This 30 bed, 40,000sf private facility creates an environment that empowers recovery and restoration that will transition patients from acute care facilities back to home living. When budget and project timeline is a concern, sustainability can often be considered a "nice to have". At Dekker, we show clients what they can gain by prioritizing sustainable design — even if there are no regulations to adhere to. For the New Mexico Educational Requirement Board Office space, Dekker’s Building Performance Analysis Team (BPAT) performed a quick energy and solar photovoltaic (PV) study. After seeing the data, the client decided to embrace on-site renewable solar energy generation wholeheartedly! With the combination of a high-performance mechanical system and a tightly-sealed envelope, the solar array is designed to offset 154% of the building's annual energy use! Further sustainable design elements include native drought-tolerant plants, high-performance insulation, and strategically designed facades to mitigate solar heat gain. We recently had the honor of attending the topping out ceremony for the new Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office, where the last piece of structural steel was signed by all champions and partners of the project and put in place. Among the attendees was County Judge Curtis Parrish who, together with the county commissioners, voted to approve the project, and Dr. Charles Addington, Chief Medical Examiner.  This new medical examiner's office was declared by Judge Parrish as the “Crown Jewel” of Lubbock County. We partnered with Crime Lab Design by HERA laboratory planners and Lee Lewis Construction, Inc. to design a space that maximizes quality of life for the medical examiner office staff who work so hard to serve their community.
