Home to the first van Gogh painting to enter a U.S. museum (Self-Portrait, 1887) and to Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry Murals (1932-33), the Detroit Institute of Arts is known for its quality, range, and depth of collection. The DIA is a gathering place, and strives to create experiences that help each visitor find personal meaning with the art, both individually and with each other.     📢 New Position Opening at the DIA: Director of Exhibitions Under the direction of the Vice President, Exhibition and Collection Strategies, the Director, Exhibitions works to oversee all aspects of the museum’s exhibitions and publishing program to achieve installations and publications of high quality, importance, and impact. The Director, Exhibitions will lead the development and implementation of the museum’s program of temporary exhibitions, permanent gallery installations, and publications. Essential duties include: 🎫Identify and lead teams to develop, manage, and implement exhibitions and major gallery projects that achieve audience, artistic, and financial goals; utilize collaborative work processes to ensure cross-functional communications, efficiency, and effectiveness. 🎫Responsible for the production of the highest quality museum publications within a specified time frame and budget, working with authors, curators, production staff, editors, proofreaders, designers, printers and others on a full range of museum publications including but not limited to exhibition and permanent collection catalogues, the Bulletin of the Detroit Institute of Arts, brochures, labels and other related text. 🎫 Manage the department, determining priorities and goals, scheduling and annual budget for all sections ensuring that department resources and staff support the museum's strategic goals and annual museum-wide goals, and that those goals are met on schedule and within budget.     📣 New Position Opening at the DIA: Director of Conservation Under the direction of the Vice President, Exhibition and Collection Strategies, the Director, Conservation leads the department in the examination, documentation, preservation, restoration, analysis, and technical research of artworks in the DIA's encyclopedic collections. Essential duties include: 🖼 Ensure that all collection preservation activities, including conservation research, treatment, and documentation, are conducted in adherence with the American Institute for Conservation Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice. 🖼 Oversee department initiatives and support conservation staff in their pursuit of technical research on artworks including documentation of structure through written reports, scientific analysis, and imaging in support of acquisitions, treatment, curatorial/ scholarly inquiries and exhibition and gallery content. 🖼 Manage the department, determining priorities and goals, scheduling and annual budget for all sections ensuring that department resources and staff support the museum's strategic goals and annual museum-wide goals, and that those goals are met on schedule and within budget. Essential duties include: ✍Write and edit a variety of content for use in marketing materials and organizational communications highlighting DIA exhibitions, collections and galleries; community engagement programs and initiatives; public programs; director’s updates; and the DIA shop. ✍ Provide writing and editing support for museum projects, including impact reports, donor communications, educational guides, and staff communications. ✍Partner with departmental colleagues to create and edit copy for marketing materials, including print programs, social media and website copy, press releases, and digital and physical advertisements.     🔔 New job opening at the DIA: Planned Giving Officer 🔔 The Planned Giving Officer is responsible for the museum’s comprehensive planned giving program, the cultivation of planned giving prospects, soliciting planned gifts, documenting planned gifts and stewardship of planned giving prospects, donors, and administration of estate gifts. The Planned Giving Officer cultivates, and stewards planned giving through personal contacts, planned giving marketing efforts, and Tannahill Society participation and recognition. Essential duties include: 📃 Seek out new prospects through research by collaborating with major gift officers and other colleagues, through a comprehensive planned marketing program, including survey results and other digital products. 📃 Solicit, close, and document new pledged gifts annually and facilitate the closing of established estate gifts in accordance with museum financial goals. 📃 Work with donor’s counsel on pending estates, manage contact and communication throughout the disbursement process.
