Zaid Bin Moaz is an Associate Software Engineer at Devsinc, specializing in AI-LLM models. With expertise in Django, PHP Laravel, and ROR, he's known for his problem-solving skills and collaborative approach. We had a thought-provoking conversation with regarding his journey. Here's how it went: "Zaid, can you tell us about your journey in software engineering? How did you start, and what motivated you to keep learning new skills?" "I started with a strong foundation in Django, which really helped me get a solid grasp on web development. But I soon realized that to stay competitive in this field, I needed to expand my skill set. That's when I began working with PHP Laravel, Ruby on Rails (ROR), and other web development services. The need to adapt and upskill constantly keeps me motivated because our industry evolves so quickly, and I want to stay ahead of the curve." "It sounds like you've had to overcome some significant challenges. Can you share a turning point in your journey?" "Absolutely. There was a project where we weren't provided with confidential production data, which was a critical roadblock. It felt like we hit a dead end. But after a lot of brainstorming and with the support of my team, we were able to generate the necessary data ourselves. It was a tough situation, but it taught me the value of teamwork and persistence. Ultimately, we saved the project, and that experience reinforced my belief in creative problem-solving." "That's impressive. Can you tell us more about what you're currently working on?" "Right now, I’m mainly focused on working with AI-LLM models. I'm particularly involved in generating responses for automated reservation systems, similar to chatbots. We use OpenAI to create responses tailored to specific client content, providing a personalized customer service experience. It's fascinating work because it allows us to blend technology with real-world applications, making interactions smoother and more efficient." "When you encounter blockers in your work, how do you approach solving them?" "I believe in tracing the issue back to its root cause. Debugging is essential, but I also think peer review programming is an underrated tool. Having another set of skillful eyes look at a problem often brings a fresh perspective that can lead to an effective solution. Collaboration in this way is crucial, especially when you're stuck." "Finally, what advice would you give to someone new in the field of software engineering?" "My advice would be to be decisive in choosing your tech stack and stick to your strengths. There are so many options out there, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But if you can identify what you’re good at and focus on it, you’ll go a long way, both personally and professionally. Decisiveness and confidence in your chosen path are key to success in this field."
