Dogwood Canyon Nature Park

Did you know one in five children in southwest Missouri worry about where their next meal is coming from? Today, Johnny Morris' Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium and Dogwood Canyon Nature Park were proud to take part in the 26th annual Hungerthon, benefiting Ozarks Food Harvest. Hosted by Ozarks Food Harvest and iHeartRadio Springfield, the radiothon raised funds for The Food Bank’s Weekend Backpack Program, which provides children facing hunger with nutritious meals and snacks to take home every weekend during the school year. In rural Ozarks communities and school districts, programs like these are crucial in addressing the needs of children and ensuring they have access to nutritious meals. I’m proud to be part of an organization, led by an incredible leadership team, that is deeply committed to supporting our local community and making a lasting, positive impact on future generations.

The American bison was once near extinction in the early 1900s. Now, we use their gradually growing population as a symbol of the importance of protecting native species.

It's that time of year! Our first bison calf of the year was born and is settling into the herd quite nicely! 🦬 Did you know bison calves are also called red dogs because of their reddish tan color? Their color allows them to hide from predators that are red-green color blind. Their color will begin to shift to the traditional dark brown after a few months and that is when the shoulder hump and horns will also begin to grow.
