Placemaking in action: this week, downtown Seattle played host to the International Downtown Association’s 70th Annual Conference & Marketplace. Over 1,400 downtown champions from around the country and world came together to connect, share best practices and discover new ideas. It was an honor to share our downtown with the world as the co-host of this year's conference. See you next year, IDA!

Our Mission: To create a healthy, vibrant downtown for all
Über uns
Established in 1958, the Downtown Seattle Association (DSA) is a nonprofit membership organization whose mission is to create a healthy, vibrant downtown for all. With the support of our corporate, nonprofit and residential members, we work to keep downtown economically competitive, address transportation challenges and ensure a safe, clean and inviting urban experience for workers, residents and visitors. DSA founded the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID), a 300-square-block business improvement district in downtown. With funding from MID ratepayers, we employ more than 150 ambassadors who provide cleaning, safety, concierge and outreach services throughout downtown. In partnership with city and county agencies, DSA also founded Commute Seattle, a transportation management agency that provides commuting resources for workers and businesses. Super grateful to an incredible team at the Downtown Seattle Association and our partners at Visit Seattle, The U District Partnership, Ballard Alliance, SODO Business Improvement Area, Alliance for Pioneer Square, Friends of Waterfront Park, Chinatown-International District Business Improvement Area, Seattle Office of Economic Development, West Seattle Junction and Bellevue Downtown Association who have made this week so terrific for our peers.

The Seattle Times FYI Guy covers the increasing return of workers to downtown Seattle offices. More and more employers and employees are recognizing (or perhaps “becoming reacquainted with” is a better way to put it) the value of in person collaboration, social connections and the amenities and experiences offered in a downtown that aren’t available when you work alone from home.

Keep your eyes peeled for colorful new art popping up around downtown! More than 30 new murals are set to debut in the city this month, designed and created by a diverse group of local artists. It’s all thanks to the Downtown Seattle Mural Project, part of Mayor Harrell's Downtown Activation Plan. Check out the new murals from Belltown to SODO, on display through 2026. This project is a collaborative effort between DSA, Visit Seattle, Belltown United, SODO Business Improvement Area, Chinatown-International District Business Improvement Area, Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience and City of Seattle's Office of Arts and Culture.

This was a fun convo with Marcus Lalario who was described by Seattle Met Magazine as Seattle’s Kevin Bacon because of how connected he is within Seattle’s food, fashion and music scenes. He’s behind past and present establishments like Lil Woody’s, The War Room, 95 Slide and his most recent venture - Hometeam in Pioneer Square - a mash up of Italian food, sneakers and an event space. We cover a range of topics, including his approach to launching a business, his time managing Band of Horses, his efforts to bring more music to our public spaces, fatherhood, and his extensive collaboration with some of Seattle’s most treasured brands. Over the past 12 months, the DSA/MID Clean Team has removed nearly 50,000 graffiti tags and stickers from public structures and private property. This alley between Fourth and Fifth avenues near the Seattle Central Library is now clean and clear – the first image shows what it looked like when the ambassadors arrived. #DowntownSeattle #DowntownAmbassadors
