Meeting the client's desire to implement a Vertical Split Flow model in their existing space, E4H reimagined the walk-in entry and triage area for rapid patient assessment at the Mount Sinai Guggenheim Emergency Department Renovation. Lower acuity patients were directed to the Rapid Medical Evaluation Unit, equipped with vertical positions for efficient care delivery. The results waiting area, strategically located within view of the central nurse station, expedites patient flow by accommodating those awaiting labs or discharge. At kick-off of the Mount Sinai Guggenheim Emergency Department Renovation, E4H designers faced the reality of attempting renovations without interfering hospital operations. After several phasing discussions and collaboration with the construction team's leadership, an effective cadence was eventually created, optimizing the project's schedule. The modernization of Mount Sinai's Emergency Department at the Guggenheim Pavilion is highlighted by three key innovations that significantly enhance patient care and safety: 1.) The introduction of a Split Flow Model in registration and triage areas, and a Rapid Medical Evaluation unit improved patient time, getting patients to the proper care team sooner. 2.) Doubling electrical and medical gas outlets at each patient care station to ensure readiness for potential surges in patient volumes. 3.)
