The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) has awarded Mary Ellen Hatch, late VP of nursing operations at Encompass Health, the organization's first posthumous Distinguished Service Award. The award was presented during the grand opening ceremony of ARN's 50th Rehabilitation Nursing Conference in San Antonio, TX, by ARN President Maureen Musto, in honor of Mary Ellen's significant contributions to rehabilitation nursing as well as the organization. Encompass Health's current VP Of Nursing Operations Liz Squires accepted the award on Mary Ellen's behalf. In addition to this honor, ARN created a one-time scholarship, the Mary Ellen Hatch Scholarship, for one person to receive an ARN membership for 1 year in honor of Mary Ellen. Following a brain injury, Donna started her course of treatment at Encompass Health. Her main goal was to regain independence and return to being an active member of her community. Previously, Donna enjoyed playing golf and line dancing, so her therapists incorporated her favorite activities into her treatment plan to help her regain her strength and balance.
