We’re always working to deliver for our sellers – from crafting a marketplace that helps buyers discover their unique items, to nurturing a community of fellow creative entrepreneurs that can help them grow. We recently welcomed Etsy seller Melanie Abrantes, who crafts wooden and cork home goods, to Etsy’s HQ in Brooklyn. Melanie joined members of the Etsy Community team to connect and share insights into how she’s grown her business on Etsy and, of course, capture some content before heading off to teach a wood carving workshop in Brooklyn. Check out some photos of her visit and her work below! Thanks so much for stopping by, Melanie!

🔎 Etsy’s teams are constantly innovating to deliver more relevant search results to buyers and help them discover the perfect item. One of the tools our engineers leverage is computer vision to create experiences like visual search and visually similar recommendations. These offer buyers additional paths to find what they’re looking for, powered by machine learning models that encode images as vector representations. How cool is that?! Dive into Etsy’s Code as Craft blog to hear how some of our engineers tackled the complexities of developing a novel evaluation framework with generative AI, bridging the gap between text queries and image retrieval. The magic of Etsy is created by the real people behind every purchase. We’ve been shouting it from the rooftops – and posting it on the side of buildings. Here on LinkedIn, we’re introducing you to the makers behind the billboards. Meet Juliana Pache, jewelry maker and owner of Pache Studio: 🖐️Juliana handcrafts colorful, unique earrings from polymer clay 🗽She’s is a native New Yorker, and creates all of her jewelry at her home in Brooklyn 🎨The colors and patterns of Juliana’s jewelry are inspired by her Caribbean heritage  “To me, Keeping Commerce Human means using my own two hands, thinking about the person who’s going to receive what I'm creating,” Juliana shared. “[It means] thinking about what it means to be a human being creating something for somebody else.” Watch below for Juliana’s reaction the first time she saw the finished advertisement featuring her and her shop. This evening Etsy reported our second quarter results.  “We are pleased that second quarter consolidated results included sequential acceleration of Etsy marketplace year-over-year GMS, higher consolidated revenue both year-over-year and sequentially, and strong adjusted EBITDA profitability,” said Josh Silverman, Etsy, Inc. Chief Executive Officer. ”Gifting is proving to be a winning theme - driving growth as a key source of differentiation for Etsy. We are making excellent progress with other bold moves and investments meant to raise consideration among buyers - to help us stand apart more than ever. While this is a challenging environment for our type of goods, we are focused on reigniting Etsy marketplace growth and gaining market share.” We also announced Etsy Insider: our buyer membership beta program, designed to make supporting small businesses more rewarding, in more ways, more often. In mid-September, we’ll begin inviting select buyers in the United States. Our teams are focused on helping shoppers think of Etsy first and more often, driving more sales for the millions of small businesses on our platform. Keeping Commerce Human means dedicating time to connect face-to-face with some of our fabulous sellers, including our vibrant community in San Francisco! Leaders from the Etsy Communications & Community teams Kelly Clausen and Sarah Marx - Calabrese joined Trust & Safety leaders Alice Wu Paulus and Claudia Pfalzer and Director of Marketplace Policy, Sophie Duba for a meet-and-greet with some of our Bay Area sellers. We heard from these entrepreneurs about their experiences on Etsy, their business journeys and how Etsy can help them grow. “It was incredibly refreshing to connect, collaborate, and brainstorm with Etsy team members and successful sellers,” said Cara Nguyen of YumChaSF on Etsy, who joined the meet-up. “These encounters not only foster meaningful relationships but also provide a sense of community and shared purpose, reminding us of the value of personal connections in business.” We’re excited to see more sellers IRL in the future!

Our sellers are front and center in Etsy’s latest marketing campaign. Here on LinkedIn, we’re giving you a closer look at the incredible people behind the billboards. https://etsy.me/makers First up is Tiffany Gomez of Gomez Design Studio, a woodworker and furniture designer from New York City. A little more about her: 🪵 Tiffany sells custom tables made with reclaimed wood 🔷 Her pieces feature intricately designed, colorful, geometric features 🪚 After mastering woodworking herself, Tiffany learned her grandfather had been a woodworker in Cuba “It was quite a journey to get here. Being an independent creative business is extremely important to me because it allows me to explore my creativity without limitations,” Tiffany shared. “All of my work is one of a kind. So when you order something from me, no one in the entire world is gonna have it but you.” Click through below to see samples of Tiffany in Etsy ads, and the moment when Raina Moskowitz, Etsy Chief Operations and Marketing Officer, surprised Tiffany at her studio in the Bronx to give her a sneak peak of the campaign!

At Etsy, we know that what’s good for families is good for business. Etsy CEO Josh Silverman recently joined Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and fellow business leaders at the first ever National Child Care Innovation Summit at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to discuss the impact of robust childcare and paid leave benefits and how expanding them to millions of self-employed Americans could help small creative businesses across the country. Josh spoke about how paid leave benefits could unlock more opportunity for millions of Etsy sellers – over 80% of whom identify as women and are businesses of one. We’re proud to help pave the path for creative makers – on and off Etsy – to start and grow their businesses.
