January 27, 2009 William C. Dudley becomes the tenth New York Fed president at the age of 56. Dudley, who joined the New York Fed in 2007, had been head of the Markets Group and manager of the System Open Market Account for the Federal Open Market Committee. Prior to this, he was a partner and managing director at Goldman, Sachs & Company and was the firm's chief U.S. economist for a decade. Dudley also worked as a vice president at the former Morgan Guaranty Trust Company and before that was an economist at the Federal Reserve Board from 1981 to 1983. When named New York Fed president, Dudley remarked, "I am honored to have this opportunity to lead an institution of such high quality—its people and their collective commitment to the public good are exemplary." William C. Dudley retired from the New York Fed on June 17, 2018. #newyorkfedhistory

Today, our Center for Microeconomic Data released the August 2024 Survey of Consumer Expectations, which shows inflation expectations remained unchanged at the short- and longer-term horizons, and rebounded somewhat at the medium-term horizon after a sharp decrease last month.
