Fernbank Museum of Natural History

It was such a treat to hear from local Atlanta artist, Huelani Mei, at Fernbank Museum of Natural History last night regarding the inspiration behind her sculptures featured in the Forest Forms exhibit. She spoke of her goal to provide unexpected moments for #reflection, #wonder and #appreciation for the animals and their #environment. We are proud to be the debut venue to host this beautiful, playful and thoughtful exhibition that brings #art, #science and #nature together, reminding us how precious our planet is. It’s on view in Wildwoods at Fernbank through September 29.

Forest restoration is a forever commitment that involves staff and volunteer support on an on-going basis to remove nonnative, invasive species, like English ivy, liriope and more. Today we were fortunate to host a volunteer group from KPMG who worked hard to contribute to the healthy ecosystem in Fernbank Forest, the largest urban, old-growth, Piedmont Forest in the United States. It was an honor to host Dr. Ayanna Howard, Dean of the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University, at Fernbank Museum of Natural History earlier this week for a special screening of our newest giant screen movie, Superhuman Body: World of Medical Marvels. Dr. Howard is featured in the movie, and her work is not only improving lives but also helping us better understand our planet. This inspirational movie (from MacGillivray Freeman Films) is a great reminder that science helps us make sense of the world around us; science drives innovation and ingenuity; and, science provides hope for the future. Special thanks to Host Committee Chairs, Drs. Kevin E. Woods, MD, MPH and Kalinda Woods, MD, FACOG, for bringing people together for this discussion exploring the intersection of science, technology and medicine and what that means for our future.
