In Europe, battery storage and other non-fossil technologies can compete on a level playing field when energy security and emission reduction goals are non-negotiable. Julian Jansen, Senior Director of Growth and Market Management, EMEA, at Fluence, dives into decreasing carbon caps as a future-focused market reform strategy for Europe on the Full Potential blog. Here’s how: ➡️ Caps as part of prequalification requirements ➡️ reduce the contracts awarded to high-emitting technologies ➡️ Assets in capacity markets become more climate-friendly ➡️ without the market picking a technology ‘winner’ Effectively Utilising Energy Storage in Capacity Markets Will Increase Energy Security in Europe: https://bit.ly/44LQ5nG #decarbonization #energystorage #energysecurity

🔋 The exponential growth of clean energy continues. A report from RMI (Rocky Mountain Institute) recently provided evidence that the world's energy system is rapidly shifting from fossil fuels to clean technology, driven by falling cleantech costs, abundant renewable resources, and global leadership. The growth is expected to continue exponentially. By 2030, RMI predicts that we will be installing 1,000 GW of solar a year and selling 6,000 GWh of battery storage a year, making possible the COP goal of tripling renewable capacity. At this rate, battery storage will overtake pumped hydro capacity. Through this rapid growth, we're excited to deliver the intelligent energy storage technologies that accelerate the clean energy transition. ♻️ As the battery-based energy storage industry continues to rapidly grow across the globe, how do we address the lifecycle impact of these systems? Enter the circular economy – a regenerative system designed to redefine how we produce, use, and dispose of products. A circular economy keeps materials and products in circulation for as long as possible. In our latest article on the Full Potential blog, Daniel Elias, Americas Environmental Manager at Fluence, explores how embracing circularity in the lifecycle of storage products can enhance sustainability while fostering resilience and innovation. 🚀 Data center growth + demand for carbon-free energy = massive growth of solar and battery storage resources. As data center infrastructure ramps up to meet the pace of internet and AI application growth, big tech companies are increasingly looking to solar and battery storage as sources of clean, reliable electricity. In this CNBC article, John Zahurancik, President, Americas at Fluence weighs in on the growing demand for clean power amidst this historic growth, the need for storage as a critical component in matching power supply and demand, and the potential for longer duration batteries on the grid. Solar is growing faster than any electricity source as Big Tech seeks clean energy for data centers: https://cnb.cx/4beI7oN

🙌 A throwback to a great last week in Munich, Germany at The smarter E Intersolar ees - electrical energy storage Europe 2024! 60+ strong Fluence team engaged in conversations around the state of battery-based energy storage and the clean energy transition in Europe and globally. Some of the takeaways: 🔋 The number of players eyeing entry into the German market continues to increase. As companies try to understand the right path to enter the German market, the need for local knowledge around permitting, grid access, market knowledge, and product choices is key to success. 🔋 The recent decline in the cost of storage has pushed more projects into the green, including in markets like the Netherlands, previously seen as less advantageous. 🔋 Lowering the risk of market entry without running into multiple roadblocks and project delays requires strong partnerships with local expertise on the development, product, and optimization side. 🔋 The market continues to accelerate without a clear framework to unlock larger system value, for example, by reducing congestion management to better utilization of grid connections. It's time for policy makers to consider how storage can be used more efficiently! Exciting times lie ahead as we look forward to supporting our partners and customers in the energy transition.
