Multilateral and Multicultural Leadership Advances Collaboration -- How Can I Help

Bipartisan foreign policy will be essential to address many emerging challenges in the upcoming transition of administrations. Pleased to join Foreign Policy for America (FP4A) for its side event at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. Especially as one having roots in Illinois and Chicago. The speakers covered a wide-ranging discussion on global politics – particularly climate change and its relationship to development and instability driven by migration and projected food shortages. Honored to also observe our parliamentary process and meet the Ambassador of Japan to the United States and the Consul General of India in Chicago. During times like these, we cannot overlook important questions and issues like human rights, freedom of speech, and international cooperation, even as we continue to address pressing security issues such as global health, poverty eradication, and climate change that drive the conditions conducive to fragility.

Foreign policy is front and center in the 2024 election. During the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Foreign Policy for America and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs hosted a crucial discussion on how international issues are shaping the race. The panel featured Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), former National Security Advisor Ambassador Susan Rice, former White House National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy, and Rockefeller Foundation CEO Rajiv Shah, moderated by former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder.

  • For the last three and a half years, Vice President Harris has played a central role in American diplomacy, standing side by side with President Biden to lead the recovery from COVID and the global economic recession, rebuild and expand U.S. alliances, make historic investments in the clean energy transition, and rally the world to stand up to Vladimir Putin. She has consistently offered a compelling vision for U.S. leadership in the world, leading efforts to deepen and expand US security ties, empower American businesses, and address urgent humanitarian crises around the globe. She will enter office with more national security experience than any president in the last thirty years except President Biden. She is ready to lead, and Foreign Policy for America is proud to endorse her.

  • The FP4A community came together ahead of the Washington #NATOSummit for a discussion on engaging young Americans to strengthen the alliance, featuring NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Marie-Doha Besancenot and FP4A Advisory Board member and former U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Ivo Daalder. We also heard from Dina Smeltz of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, who shared their polling measuring US public support for NATO. The findings reveal that most young people – and the majority of Americans – see NATO as essential to U.S. security. You can learn more about their polling here ➡ https://lnkd.in/ehpy5FMA. Speaking with our NextGen members, the panelists delved into the challenges and opportunities of engaging youth to understand NATO’s values, history, and role in protecting the rules-based international order. As NATO turns 75, the Foreign Policy for America community remains committed to advocating for this critical alliance.

  • At Foreign Policy for America's 2024 Leadership Summit, we convened our national community in Washington, D.C. for a series of critical conversations with top officials from the Biden administration, Congress, the private sector, and the advocacy community.    The Summit was an important forum for us to learn from one another and explore how we can work toward a better future together.   Check out some highlights below! ⬇️

  • Thank you to all our incredible Hill Day volunteers for a busy and impactful advocacy day supporting America's commitments to Ukraine. 🇺🇸 🇺🇦 To kick things off, we heard from Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut, who spoke about the importance of upholding principled U.S. leadership and defending democracy at home and abroad. We were also honored to be joined by three former U.S. ambassadors to Ukraine: John Herbst, Marie Yovanovitch, and William B. Taylor. Their invaluable expertise helped guide our discussions with lawmakers to urge continued support for Kyiv in its fight against Putin's aggression.

Policy Analyst, Congressman Joaquin Castro at U.S. House of Representatives

Thank you to Foreign Policy for America for the incredible honor of this award. I'm grateful to all my NextGen fellows and the organization for their amazing work and passion, and I am so lucky to work for Rep. Castro and to be supported by my amazing office. I was very appreciative of the opportunity to speak about what gives me hope during this time of global crises (and the craziness of politics on Capitol Hill) and how important it is that we all continue to speak truth to power and push for equality, justice, and security around the world.
