🌟 Runner Spotlight 🌟 Team Elijah took on the NYCRuns Brooklyn Half Marathon in April and raised over $18,000 for cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Check out Eljah's "why" for running: "In September 2023, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). As an avid runner before my diagnosis, I was determined to return to the sport once I was cleared. During my first week of chemotherapy, I signed up for the 2024 NYCRuns Brooklyn Half Marathon that following April, along with 15 close friends who ran on my behalf. Their support helped raise over $18,000 for MSK. I completed the half marathon, marking my remission after a recent bone marrow transplant and biopsy just days before. However, the celebration was short-lived. That night, I learned my cancer had returned. Despite crossing the finish line, this experience underscored the ongoing battle I face. Fundraising for MSK remains crucial to ensure that future AML patients receive the best care possible. The race was both a personal triumph and a stark reminder of the journey ahead." —Elijah #FredsTeam
