Farm Friday! It's just about time to harvest Echinacea at our Farm. Check out the full season of growth in a few short seconds! Echinacea is traditionally used to support immune function and is one of the most prolifically grown herbs at the Gaia Farm. We grow two types - Echinacea Purpurea and Echinacea Angustifolia. All parts of the plant are used for different reasons - the flowers (harvested in the summer) are used to support the immune system, while the roots (harvested in the fall) are used to support a healthy inflammatory response in the sinuses. We are so proud to announce our partnership with GiGi's Playhouse Inc.- Down Syndrome Achievement Centers, a nationwide 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of changing the way the world views Down syndrome and sending a global message of acceptance for all!   Inspired by a wonderful testimonial from a mother who uses our Black Elderberry Syrup to support her son’s Down syndrome-related immune issues, we reached out to GiGi’s Playhouse to see how we could support their work in providing resources to families living with Down. A fantastic partnership was born, and we are so excited to have our organic Black Elderberry Adult and Kids Syrups stocked in GiGi Playhouses in Sacramento, CA, and Chicago, freely available to #GenerationG families!   We look forward to growing our partnership with this fantastic organization and continuing to support access to wellness solutions for those who need it most! Farm Friday! The Gaia Farm is a busy place, but it has loads of opportunities for fun. Our seasonal Farm Crew likes to spend their evenings and weekends enjoying the recreation opportunities the Farm offers. Here's a few of their favorite things to do around the Farm. 

Ask A Gaian Expert | Meet Elyse Marder, Laboratory Manager (Contamination and Analytical Method Validation). Elyse has worked for Gaia Herbs for 7 years, working hard in our on-site laboratory at the Gaia Herbs Farm testing each batch of supplements to ensure quality control. Elyse’s work ensures that our products live up to the high quality standards we require, are free from pesticides, heavy metals, and microbial contaminants, and that our products all contain the ingredients, potency, and active components promised on our labels. Her job is to apply modern analytical science to ancient herbal wisdom, a task she takes very seriously!  Her favorite herb? Echinacea! “It’s native to Western North Carolina and a lot of people grow it in their yards. When I go for walks in my neighborhood, I see its use as an ornamental plant, but I know there is a potent source of wellness hidden beneath those beautiful flowers. The bees and butterflies love it, too! Go pollinators!”  Not only is Elyse an essential expert at Gaia Herbs – she also actively serves on two volunteer advisory boards for the City of Asheville. Outside of her professional work and civic participation, she enjoys quality time with her partner, Matthew. 

Farm Fridays! Our Farm doesn't just grow herbs for our supplements - we grow 150 different types of fruits and vegetables that are part of our Employee Vegetable Program! Each season, we set aside five acres of farmland to grow vegetables that are distributed to employees at a free Gaian Farmer's Market throughout growing season. All remaining produce is donated to local community organizations, to help families in need receive fresh, organic vegetables.
