We're excited to announce Frank Mace as the chairman of Future Leaders of Galveston Bay, a growing network of professionals, philanthropists, and environmental enthusiasts who serve as ambassadors for us in their communities.  Frank's connection to the Bay runs deep - he grew up on its shores and first got involved with us through an Eagle Scout marsh planting project back in 2007 (see third image). Now he's continuing that commitment by leading our Future Leaders group to ensure the Bay is protected for the next generation. Want to join Frank and other Bay advocates in supporting our vital work? Come to our Future Leaders Kickoff Happy Hour to learn how you can make a tangible impact on the health of Galveston Bay and local conversation efforts.  🗓️ Join us Wednesday, September 18 from 5:30-7:30 pm 📍 Winnie's (3622 Main St, Houston) 🍸 Your first drink is on us! 🔗 RSVP by 9/15 at https://lnkd.in/gwqfjC4B We hope to see you there! #HappyHour #FutureLeaders

We're excited to share that our Pine Gully property is officially conserved! 🙌 We want to give a huge shoutout to the Friends of Pine Gully, who pulled together to support conservation in Galveston Bay through the acquisition of this 16-acre Pine Gully tract in Kemah (pictured here).  What's next? Our team will assemble a management plan for the property, that looks at things like debris removal, fencing and potential restoration/reforestation.🌳 We are proud to have worked with such a large group of individuals who care about their community and understand the value and importance of open space and conserved lands.  It's a special place and a shining example of community conservation. When we work together, there's no limit to what we can preserve.  Thank you to everyone involved with this effort. We are grateful for your support! #Conservation #Restoration #Reforestation

Teamwork makes the dream work. 🙌 Big thanks to our amazing volunteers who helped us prepare our Wetland Connections program for this school year! Our Volunteer Educators, Anchor QEA, and community volunteers reset our mini-campus wetlands and prepared campus water quality kits for the 14 schools participating in the program this year!  An estimated 1,700 students will use these materials to gain a deeper understanding of Galveston Bay wetlands, while also exploring types of data collection and environmental careers. Connecting students to our wetland ecosystem is at the heart of our mission.  The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company  #volunteers #backtoschool #scienceeducation

The Galveston Bay Dolphin Research Program (GDRP) recently completed its first round of photo-identification fieldwork for a five-year project focused on evaluating how multiple stressors affect Galveston Bay dolphins.  This fieldwork was funded by the NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration RESTORE Science Program and participating organizations included us, and our partners at the University of Houston-Clear Lake's Environmental Institute of Houston, the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network, and the National Marine Mammal Foundation.  Teams from these organizations worked on four boats to synchronously search for dolphins throughout the Bay. This data will be used to estimate dolphin survival rates in Galveston Bay. 🌊 Our team is excited to have completed this first field effort for this project and will now begin analyzing the collected data. We are extremely grateful for our project partners and our volunteers who assisted us on the GDRP boats during these past few weeks.  #NationalWildlifeDay #FieldWork #DolphinResearch
