Since 1947, Goodwill has helped thousands of individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment onto a path toward reclaiming their independence. We operate three divisions: contracts, retail and workforce development. Each contributes to the community and well being of others in an important and diverse way. Goodwill serves 23 parishes throughout Southeastern Louisiana. As we look to the future, there are an increasing number of individuals in need of our help. It is only with the continued support of individuals and businesses in our communities that we can continue what we do best—put people to work.

Great session at NOLA SHRM yesterday! We heard from Jodee Daroca and Robert Johnson of Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana on the importance of alignment between organizational strategy and culture. It’s always great to hear from visionary leaders who recognize that HR is bigger than “compliance”! Human Resources can include talent and organizational development. Also- Goodwill is so much more than their stores! They are doing great work all over Southeastern LA.

Our new Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program (HVRP) is off and running!
Deputy Assistant Secretary Policy Julian Purdy visited Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana in New Orleans. The Vice President of Goodwill Services, Scottie Leblanc, explained that they have been operational as a Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program grantee for just over two weeks and they've already provided services to 17 Veterans utilizing the new resources and their existing programs to return them to meaningful employment. Deputy Assistant Secretary Policy, Julian Purdy also visited the Jefferson Parrish American Job Center where he met with Jobs for Veteran State Grant staff Dwight Elmore (DVOP) and Fred Wallace (LVER) as well as the LA state JVSG director and the Jefferson Parrish AJC Director. Great job to the Louisiana team for planning the visit and to Louisiana Assistant State Director Jonathan Narcisse for accompanying him!

We’re excited to be part of Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana GEAR Job Readiness program led by Denise Major. Our talented Director of Client Engagement and Education Deneka Desroches has been teaching the participants, many of whom have been laid off or justice impacted, how to budget, save and plan. In a recent class, Deneka talked to the class about how budgeting, planning and saving also affects what jobs you interview for. Your monthly wage should match well with your household budget, savings and future plans, so look for positions that can pay you enough. Yesterday, the class worked on vision boards, starting to make their dreams a reality. #justiceimpacted #jobs #jobskills #financialliteracy
