Meet Girl Scout Paralympian Tatyana McFadden! Tatyana is the most decorated wheelchair racer in the world, competing in the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2016 Rio, 2020 Tokyo, and 2024 Paris Paralympics! Tatyana joined Girl Scouts shortly after moving to Ellicott City, Maryland with her adoptive family and attended Girl Scouts Nation's Capital very own Camp Potomac Woods. "It was an amazing experience for everyone." Tatyana recalls, "If there was somewhere in the camp I couldn't get to by wheelchair, the counselors let me ride in the camps golf cart. And if there were hikes through the woods, one of the counselors would carry me piggyback. I was just one more kid at camp!" It's been a little over 100 days since joining Girl Scouts Nation's Capital, and what an inspiring ride it's been so far! I've had the privilege of seeing firsthand the magic that happens when each Girl Scout taps into their potential to make a difference. And the compassion, dedication, and enthusiasm of our volunteers, caregivers, and staff make the Council a safe and welcoming place where young leaders discover their passions and build the confidence and courage to pursue them. I was thrilled to join Camp Ashgrove day campers at our Camp Crowell location. I learned how to create a yarn wheel, climbed a rope wall, threw tomahawks, ate ice cream, and enjoyed being in space with young leaders and our committed volunteers.
