At the end of their quarterly meeting on March 27, the North Texas Practice Operations Finance team closed their laptops, rolled up their sleeves and prepared 23,000 meals for children in underdeveloped nations. Spearheaded by Assistant Controller Jessica Mesinovic, MSHM, MBA, this half-day volunteer project, in partnership with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), served as a valuable community service and a unique team-building exercise. At FMSC’s packing facility, volunteers dedicated their efforts to assembling MannaPacks, which contain a mixture of rice and vitamin concentrates designed by nutritionists to help reduce problems with malnutrition in poverty-stricken areas. Jess and her team, alongside other volunteer groups from organizations like Texas Instruments, were tasked with preparing these packs for distribution. The results were remarkable. Over a few hours, the team packed 106 boxes, equaling nearly 23,000 meals, enough to feed 62 children for an entire year. This endeavor not only highlighted the urgency of addressing global hunger but also showcased the power of collaborative effort in achieving significant results. Competing with other teams fostered a sense of excitement and engagement, transforming a standard volunteer activity into an inspiring team-building experience. Jess observed that volunteering offered a deeper sense of accomplishment than traditional recreational team-building events, as it combined personal fulfillment with impactful community service. “While working on the MannaPacks, we were able to talk and have fun while accomplishing something together as a team,” Jess said. “It felt like we truly made a difference.” This initiative was part of a broader strategy by Jess’s team to integrate public service into their quarterly meetings. Assistant CFO Kristal Adam recommended this approach based on her past positive experiences with similar activities. The team’s enthusiastic response to this integration underscored its effectiveness in fostering community engagement and internal cohesion. “Our teams may not have patient-facing roles,” Kristal said. “However, they are an important part of providing healthcare to our community. We were honored to partner with FMSC to provide food that will improve the lives of children we will likely never meet, much like we are honored to support those who provide healthcare each day.” Following the success of this event, Jess and her team are not resting on their laurels. They are committed to continuing this tradition of combining public service with team development. Their dedication is fueled by the benefits of making a significant community impact while strengthening their connection as a team.  The success of this project illustrates how we can work together to show up for our communities, creating a win-win situation for both the community and the organization. Kudos to the North Texas Financial Team for showing up! #healthiertomorrows #weshowup

  • Having a 'ruff' day? This will make you smile. Meet Harry! He’s a valued member of the animal therapy program across our broader health network, HCA Healthcare. Facility, service and therapy dogs have touched countless lives and brought smiles to patients, their loved ones and our care teams. Some even have their own badges and earn anniversary pins for their years of service. This #DogDay, join us in celebrating therapy dogs as they spread joy and 'pawsitivity' wherever they go! #PositiveImpact #TherapyDogs

Director of Development - Capital Division

Leaders across HCA Healthcare’s Capital Division came together today to participate in the YMCA of Greater Richmond’s Bright Beginnings program, created to “equip kids with readiness and confidence on the first day of school.” In lead up to the big day, our Central Virginia practices held school supply drives to collect much-needed resources for local students heading into the new academic year. Thank you to the Tuckahoe Family YMCA for this amazing event, and to our HCA Healthcare Physician Services team members for #caringlikefamily.

  • In Denver, Colorado, Jodi’s Race for Awareness has been educating the public about symptoms and risk factors related to ovarian cancer since 2010. This year, the race celebrated its 15th anniversary, and colleagues from HealthONE Colorado Gynecologic Oncology Specialists showed up once again with their support. In fact, colleagues have been showing up for this event long before they were part of HCA Healthcare.    Organized by and benefitting the Colorado Gynecologic Cancer Alliance, Jodi’s Race 5k raises funds for programs that benefit gynecological cancer patients and their families. The event fosters community spirit and strengthens the bond between healthcare providers and patients. Colleagues, including those new to the practice, find the event a powerful reminder of the impact their work has on patients’ lives. This is evident at the HealthONE booth, where colleagues speak with a steady flow of patients, survivors and families throughout the event.    Learn more about the history of Jodi’s Race and its inspiration, Jodi Brammeir, at JodisRace.org.    The involvement of local providers in Jodi’s Race has been a testament to their unwavering commitment to patient care and community service. The team at HealthONE has been involved in the race for many years, and their engagement with the event strengthened when they joined HCA Healthcare in 2019. Demonstrating their personal dedication to the cause, when doctors are on call during the event, they often make time to visit colleagues, patients and families.    The practice’s support extends beyond just participating in the race. Throughout the year, Physician Assistant Melissa James collaborates closely with the organization to support their survivorship program. This partnership includes donating items for patient care packages and organizing educational events for survivors and families. This holistic approach underscores their dedication to supporting cancer research and directly aiding patients through practical resources.    The event also has a substantial impact on colleagues. “Hearing stories from patients and even family members of patients who lost their battle really gives you a sense of why we do what we do in the office,” said Practice Manager Amy Hollingsworth. “At these races, we see several people running up to the doctors, giving them big hugs. It means a lot to see that.”    DPS Jenny Kingdon, MBA, who attended the event for the first time this year, echoed Amy’s sentiment. “It was exciting to see colleagues engage with our patients in this setting. Seeing our practice and HCA represented so strongly in the community was great. I was impressed by how energized everyone was to be there despite the scorching temperatures. I’m proud to be such a big-hearted team!” Thank you to all the colleagues in the Denver market who have participated in this event or supported the worthy efforts of the Colorado Gynecologic Cancer Alliance.  #HealthierTomorrows
