Wildfires are the number one natural hazard in Douglas County and can happen in any season. Aerial support is a critical component of Douglas County’s wildfire preparedness toolbox, directed by the Douglas County Office of Emergency Management in close partnership with local fire departments and other agencies. To save lives and protect property, the Trans Aero Helicopter is contracted with Douglas County for exclusive use June 1 until Oct. 31, 2024, with the opportunity to extend exclusive use this year as needed. Having an exclusive use helicopter on contract ensures this tool is ready to be deployed whenever Douglas County needs it. If you attended the Highlands Ranch July 4th Parade, you likely saw the helicopter fly over the parade, which brought attention to this valuable fire fighting resource in our community. Applications are open through Friday, June 14 for Leadership Douglas County, a valuable program committed to ensuring the continuity of knowledgeable and effective leadership in Douglas County. LDC participants commit to a two-year program and hear first hand from speakers on topics including history, open space, healthcare, aging, social services, civic engagement, education, economic development, transportation, law enforcement, fire and emergency services, public safety, arts and culture, media, along with team-building elements and skills training throughout.
