Like many students, Jai’Lynn Holloman faced struggles in school: He knew what he wanted for his future, but was unsure how to achieve those goals. That changed when he joined Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection and met Youth Advocate Autumn Gilbert, whose genuine love of her work and dedication to her students had a profound impact on Jai'Lynn's future. Autumn helped Jai’Lynn figure out the “how” to his “what.” Today, this class of 2024 graduate has moved on to his next steps of higher education and exploring a career in visual arts—and he thanks Autumn and Hillside for the support that made such a difference at a critical time in his life. #StoriesofHillside #HillsideStrong #YouthEmpowerment

Fifteen Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection students representing all five Syracuse high schools recently participated in an enriching educational trip. In Washington, DC, they explored the National Museum of African American History & Culture, and visited the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. They then headed to Manassas, VA, for a tour of the Micron Technology facility where they gained valuable knowledge about the tech industry that is rapidly growing in the Syracuse area. The HWSC students learned about new career pathways and made new connections — and they’re particularly excited about Micron coming to Central New York. Hillside is excited to continue our partnership with Micron and maintain collaborative relationships with Dr. Robert Simmons and Joe Nehme. Thank you for hosting us!

Today, our Crestwood Campus held a lovely moving-up ceremony -- with families, friends and staff gathering to celebrate the milestone achievements and future successes of the childred served at Crestwood. Congratulations to all our #HillsideStrong rock stars!

Young visitors to our Family Opportunity Center in Rochester will be thrilled to see these handmade dollhouse rooms—a donation from Candice Hudson (pictured, second from right), owner of EllaAndMe Mini Escapes. “Hillside has always stood out to me as an agency of change,” she said, and “it was an extreme honor for me to be able to give back." Yesterday, Rod Green and Patricia Washington from Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection had the opportunity to meet with Senator Joseph Griffo and welcome Dr. Christopher Spence to the Utica City School District! As the new superintendent, our team looks forward to working with you.

Today, we presented scholarships to four deserving (three shown in the photo) Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection students through the Catherine Crawford Memorial Scholarship. The scholarships were presented by her husband, Larry, and daughter, Kelly. Each student received a $500 scholarship award, and thanks to the generosity of the Crawford Family, these students will be able to continue their studies. Thank you!
