As we wind down the last week of summer, our teams made sure to go out with a bang! Our Richmond and Charlottesville offices soaked up the fun with families at Bogey's Sport Park, hitting the driving range, playing mini golf, and bouncing around, all while enjoying tasty treats from local food and beverage trucks. Over in Hampton Roads, families struck it big at Apex Entertainment with VIP bowling, sports simulators, laser tag, and a daring ropes course! Gathering together is a vital part of our culture. It fosters stronger bonds, rejuvenates our spirits, and enhances teamwork, empowering us to better serve our clients and communities. For the second consecutive year, Hourigan has been recognized as a TOP Virginia Employer for Interns by the Virginia Talent and Opportunity Partnership (TOP)! This recognition further demonstrates our commitment to mentoring and developing the next generation of construction leaders. Hourigan interns gain hands-on experience in every aspect of construction while they learn from experts in the field. Along with day-to-day construction operations experience, our interns have toured numerous Hourigan job sites, met leaders within each Hourigan department, and had lunch with the executive team. We hosted the City of Norfolk Fire Department last week as they used one of our demolition projects for training. Large vacant buildings are excellent opportunities for firefighters to train and practice life saving skills. These firefighters know their way around a residential structure all too well. It's large commercial buildings with heavier doors, many hallways, and small and large rooms that make it more difficult to manuver through. During the summer, construction sites across the country face a similar battle against the extreme heat. Sites often see a drastic temperature rise from June to August, accompanied by increased heat-related illness or injury cases. Keeping a job safe from heat-related illness is a collaborative effort between leadership, workers, and safety specialists. Combined efforts across all project staff to promote education, acclimatization, communication, and engineering controls can ensure that the risks of heat-related illnesses are mitigated on a job site.
