Housing Families Inc. was founded in 1986 by community members concerned about the growing crisis of homelessness among families in the cities of Everett, Malden, and Medford. Currently Housing Families primarily serves the cities of Malden, Medford, Everett, Chelsea, and Revere. 99% of families served reside in Greater Boston and the North Shore. Since 1986, the organization has grown into one of the largest operators of affordable housing for homeless and very low-income families in Massachusetts. Over 5,000 families have been helped since we first opened our doors. At Housing Families, we are working to achieve housing equity and well-being for all. As a nonprofit organization, we partner with communities, families, and individuals to ensure housing stability by offering personalized services including temporary and permanent housing, food assistance, individual counseling and group therapy, legal assistance, and youth programs. Housing Families is the only non-profit in Greater Boston to provide these holistic services under one umbrella.

This August Housing Families hosted over 300 clients at our Annual Client Appreciation Carnival in Malden’s Irish American Club. The event serves as a way to appreciate and celebrate our clients with a family-friendly “carnival” style day. At the event, we distribute backpacks with school supplies before the school year begins, and guests also enjoy food, ice cream, raffles, giveaways, and other fun activities. Housing Families received support from the City of Malden to host a voter registration booth, tables at the venue offered many arts and crafts opportunities, such as rock painting with Cathie Swan-Briggette, face painting, and balloon animals, and we even had a visit from Professor Bugman Entomology Adventures by Pierceman LLC. Thank you to our supporters and incredible staff for making the event a success, and special thank you to Preotle Lane, Greystar, and StonehamBank for sponsoring the event. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and volunteers, we were able to provide over 700 backpacks to children and teens in our programs for back to school. Each bag is full of supplies to ensure the students are well-equipped throughout the year. Here's a few numbers of supplies provided from this year's drive: 700 backpacks 14,000 pencils 2,100 notebooks 700 crayons 7,000 pens 1,400 erasers And so much more! Pictured, backpack drive volunteers and donations: Greystar New England team volunteers, staff members Brandon Mui and Karen Collins pose with donations from Malden Community member Kathi Maio, volunteers and members of Those Who Can, For Those In Need Inc., the Leading Edge Real Estate team, and the Curate Partners team. The Massachusetts Legislature recently passed the Fiscal Year 2025 state budget. Within this budget were two earmarks for Housing Families. The first earmark supports our youth program EnrichEd, in the City of Malden. The earmark was sponsored by Rep. Paul Donato and cosponsored by Rep. Steve Ultrino and Rep. Kate Lipper-Garabedian. We also received an earmark, sponsored by Sen. Jason Lewis, to purchase transport vans for our programming. A special thank you to Reps. Paul Donato, Steven Ultrino, Kate Lipper-Garabedian, and Senator Jason Lewis for sponsoring and supporting these earmarks. #Advocacy #HousingFamilies #Housing #MaldenHousing
