This award honors organizations committed to improving environmental performance and advancing sustainable practices. We also won a Greening the Operating Room Recognition award for our efforts to create a cleaner, healthier environment.    And it’s not just us! With nationwide staffing shortages in health care, especially in rural hospitals, teams have found creative ways to get work done while continuing to provide a great patient experience. One of those options at Hutchinson has been the introduction of Spencer to the team. Spencer, an artificial intelligence-powered robot, got his name from a combination of the words “specimen” and “dispenser.” He delivers specimens between the oncology department and the hospital lab. He has made a huge difference in freeing up nurses so they can spend time assisting patients. "We thought about volunteers, but it’s not always easy to fill volunteer openings. And they are only here during normal business hours,” says Laura Templin-Howk, senior lab manager at the Hutchinson and Olivia labs. "Spencer's just sitting there waiting for us, so 24/7, he's there and he's available." The team at Hutchinson Health was one of the first in the country to use AI-powered robots. In fact, in collaboration with Relay Robotics, they were able to identify features that would allow the robots, which were previously used in hotels, to better fit the privacy and delivery requirements needed in a health care setting.
