How can we represent the richness of life and culture on Earth to different planets, or even, a different universe? The Golden Records launched aboard the NASA Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft in 1977, aim to do just that. Over the course of a year, a specialized NASA committee curated a selection of natural sounds, greetings in multiple languages and musical compositions to be included in two identical phonographic records. This time capsule is meant to bring the essence of humanity into unprecedented depths of the cosmos as the two spacecraft continue their journeys beyond interstellar space.

We celebrate World Photo Day annually on 19 August to recognize the profound impacts of photography as a medium of visual storytelling and documentation. This day commemorates the public announcement of the Daguerreotype process in 1839—one of the earliest methods that captured detailed camera images using a sheet of copper. This groundbreaking milestone set the stage for modern photography, laying the foundations for the advanced digital imaging tools we use today.

"@" is an ubiquitous symbol of global connectivity, helping us send emails, tag friends on social media and more. But, did you know that it predates the Renaissance? As centuries passed, the symbol made its way onto typewriters and computer keyboards and entered the digital era during the early days of email. Computer Scientist Ray Tomlinson needed a symbol to separate usernames and host names and "@" was one of the few characters that wouldn't be confused with programming language.
