One of the most spectacular things about the contemporary world is that an outsider like me can successfully come to one of the greatest cities in the world, San Francisco, and host a fantastic dinner experience for some of the leading event planners in the world. I quite like these because, even though InEvent and Shiloh Event Management, Inc. worked in partnership to cover the expenses, we didn't have a sales pitch event. We just spoke about our challenges as event planners and shared our unfiltered knowledge. The weather was also really nice and food was amazing at the EPIC, just by Pier 35. #eventprofs YOU! Yes, I'm talking to YOU! No matter your role or title in the event industry, there are always valuable insights to share from your diverse experiences. Never doubt that!! The collective knowledge of a varied pool of #eventprofs is incredibly valuable. Recently, we partnered with InEvent to host a private dinner in the SF Bay Area for a group of exceptionally talented and knowledgeable #eventprofs. We all brought different roles and backgrounds to the table, contributing to the success of great night of content and rich discussions!! Networking goes beyond exchanging contacts; it’s about sharing knowledge, insights, and lessons learned. Here are a few insights that broadened my perspectives: -- Event tech crashes happen (but shouldn't be normalized): Luckily, we've never had an event tech fully crash on us (maybe a few glitches) Always have contingencies. Don't rely on technology to perform flawlessly 100% of the time. Even if it means printing out the reg list! -- Hotels provide overage on their F&B (3-5%): It's essential to provide the hotel with updated registration numbers. Surprisingly, one hotel mentioned that many planners fail to do this. So shocked!! At our agency, we ensure success by conducting pre-con meetings with our vendors/venues 1 to 2 weeks before the event to share these vital info. -- Creating a sense of urgency to incentivize registration is ethical if it provides value and benefits. For example, don't just say "Seats are limited" Say, "register so you can be part of an exclusive experience of ___(Fill in the blanks) ____" And note to #eventmarketers, it's not JUST about the money, it's experience. Most of the time, the attendees cost of attendance is fulfilled by their company, Instead of only incentivizing with money, use the FOMO to drive an EXPERIENCE that ONLY THEY can get by registering by a certain time. _____ Thank you to those who joined us and contributed to the conversations!!
