Healthy Living for Everyone.

Über uns

Founded in 1967, Integral Care prides itself on providing quality, community-based services for Travis County residents with brain-based disorders. Integral Care’s historical beginning marked the first time that public, community-based behavioral health and intellectual disabilities services became available, known as community centers. Integral Care was known as the Austin Travis County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center until September 2009, when its name was changed to reflect evolving attitudes and terminology and to honor the dignity of people who seek our services. As of November 2011, Integral Care was accredited by the Joint Commission, ensuring Integral Care's continuous quality improvement and standard of services. Integral Care was also awarded the CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation in November 2011 for its commitment to employee health, taking extensive, concrete actions in key areas of health and wellness to fight cancer in the workplace. In 2013, Integral Care was awarded National Council for Behavioral Health's Community Impact Award for Mental Health First Aid. Integral Care's programs are administered through the following service areas: Adult Behavioral Health, Child and Family, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Psychiatric Crisis Services and Jail Diversion. Services can include psychiatric evaluations, 24-hour crisis interventions, medication treatment, inpatient treatment, employment and vocational services, service coordination, family support and respite care, housing, information and referral, supported living and residential services. Integral Care also provides community services in homes, on the streets or at other sites as needed.

September is Baby Safety Month. Here are some general baby safety tips for the home. #ATCEMS will post some additional tips through the month. Each year, babies & children are injured by hazards in the home. The good news is that the risk of injury can be reduced or prevented by using child-safety devices & reminding older children to re-secure safety devices after use. Follow installation instructions carefully. No device is completely childproof; determined kids are known to overcome or disable them. Here are some devices that can help reduce injuries: Safety Locks/Latches for cabinets & drawers to help prevent poisonings & other injuries. These can help prevent gaining access to medicines, cleaners, matches, cigarette lighters, as well as knives & other sharp objects. Even products with child-resistant packaging should be locked away & kept out of reach. Look for locks that adults can easily install & use, but are sturdy enough to withstand pulls & tugs from kids. Safety Gates to prevent falls down stairs & to keep from entering rooms & with possible dangers. Look for gates that children can't dislodge easily, but adults can open/close without difficulty. For the top of stairs, only use gates that screw to the wall. Door Knob Covers/Door Locks help prevent entering rooms & other areas with possible dangers. These can help keep kids away from places with hazards. Be sure covers are sturdy, & allow a door to be opened quickly in case of emergency. Anti-Scald Devices for faucets/shower heads. Set your water heater temp to 120* F to prevent burns from hot water. These devices can help reduce the likelihood of burns. Window Guards/Safety Netting to help prevent falls from windows, balconies, decks, & landings. Check devices frequently to make sure they're secure & properly installed & maintained. Limit window openings to 4" or less, including space between window guard bars. If you have guards, be sure at least one window in each room can be easily used for escape in a fire. Window screens aren't effective for preventing falls out of windows. Corner & Edge Bumpers to help prevent injuries from falls against sharp edges of furniture & fireplaces. Look for bumpers that stay securely on furniture or hearth edges. Outlet Covers & Plates to prevent electrocution. These can help protect children from electrical shock & possible electrocution. Be sure outlet protectors cannot be easily removed by children & are large enough so that children cannot choke on them. If you are replacing receptacles, use a tamper-resistant type. Anchors to Avoid Furniture/Appliance Tip-Overs. Furniture. TVs & ranges can tip over & crush young children. Deaths & injuries occur when children climb onto, fall against or pull themselves up on television stands, shelves, bookcases, dressers, desks, chests, & ranges. For added security, anchor these products to the floor or attach them to a wall. Free standing ranges & stoves should be installed with anti-tip brackets.

This past Friday, we hosted a ribbon cutting and open house event at our new Children's Crisis Respite Center! We are proud to continue to support the mental health of the youth in our community in partnership with Travis County, Texas Health and Human Services, and The SAFE Alliance. Opening in September 2024, the Respite Center will be a 24-hour short-term facility receiving youth ages 13-17. The facility will be taking in children referred by mental health professionals, law enforcement, family, or hospitals; once referred, children can receive competent psychiatric evaluations, family partner services, and case management to support their well-being during their stay. Our Children's Crisis Respite Center is the first of its kind in Travis County, and it is the beginning of a long journey towards improving health outcomes for our youth.
